It seems that with VW quality is random. Some have issues, some have a lot of issues, and many like me, have none. And the issues that do come up are mostly these:
Rattles
Coilpack failures
Window regulator busting (fixed for 03)
In some cases Higher oil consumption
weak Diverter Valves (bov)

I like my GTI. It's really fun to drive. As long as you change the soft suspension...
I haven't had any issues with it yet. Except too much power from simple bolt ons, and trying to maintain traction with over 240lbs-ft@wheels at 3000rpm....
The only reason this doesn't do good in the Magazines, is because it's not really a sporty car, and it lacks that sporty feel, thanx to it's soft suspension, big leather seats, and some fairly small turbo lag. If you can get past that, this car WILL acctually give a hard time to the competition. Like I said, if it wasn't for that close to $24,000 price in the RSX-S (and how I do love them) I would be driving the RSX-S now.
It's not in what car, you can get from point A to B. It's how you get there.

Just one example of how its still a "honda" at heart. **** just recently acura started putting the "A" on their engine valve covers. And for the price, yes 200hp sounds VEERRYY nice, but at 7400rpm??? with only 142lb ft. of torque??? come on guys, stop defending Honda's/Acura's to this point. I know it goes back to personal preference, but ****, that dont sound like a performance car to me, or worth it at all for that matter. But once again, Just My Opinion.
200hp @ 7400rpms? "ONLY" 142lbs torque? yeah ALL from a NATURALLY ASPIRATED 2.0L 4 cylinder. no need to 'defend' honda since nobody else makes more power from an n/a engine. the only way other companies can do it is w/ turbo.
i see you have a bmw logo for an avatar. you talk trash about hondas yet like bmw's? honda makes high revving 4 cylinders, bmw makes high revving 6 cylinders, at least for the M3. bmw's just cost too damn much for the money you pay. let's look at the 325, the lowest 3 series model. it supposedly starts at ~30k. it has a 2.5L i6 engine making a whopping 184hp @ 6000rpm and 174tq @ 3500rpm. all this for ~30k. i doubt anybody can get one for ~30k unless they get **** for options. for that price its absolutely NOT worth it. please don't defend bmw saying 'its german, its class' give me something INFORMATIVE. "german" doesn't mean **** to me anymore. the only bmw i'd want to have is an m3, and NOT surprisingly its a high revving car (333hp @ 7900rpm. i doubt you like that since you don't like the rsx-s and say it isn't worth the money...
back to the subject, of course a turbo car will be more tuneable because its made for turbo. oh yeah WhopSi, of course it all comes down to personal preference.

First of all iNteGraz92, if you had the capability to understand a paragraph you would have realized that when I said "look how the fenders are bolted on", it WAS NOT to say that im surprised that they actually used bolts you moron, its how cheap and low quality it is in comparison to a VW. And the reason I have a BMW symbol as my logo is because my dad has a 330ci convertible, and if your telling me that the ONLY BMW you would drive is an M3, which means you would not take a 330ci coupe/convertible, well then forget personal preference, your just slightly retarted and I forgive you.
YOUR QUOTE - "you talk trash about hondas yet like bmw's?" Now thats a joke if I've ever heard one. You just put 2 completely different cars, in the same class. I trash talk hondas yet like BMW's??? YOUR DAMN RIGHT!! Don't even try lining those two types of cars up cuz there is not even a comparison. And I'm talking about every single aspect of those two types of vehicles. Don't feed me your bullshit about how I wouldnt like an M3 because its a high reving car (333hp @7900rpm) because once again, you simply CANNOT compare the two vehicles and anyone who wouldn't want to drive one has issues.

if u like vw then buy it.
if u like honda then buy it. i dont see u complaining about the craptacular m3 engine n itz high price tag.
why not say buy a corvette instead of an m3 and spank the m3 all day.
reason japanese cars have low torque is because the high rpm horsepower will make it up as u gain speed.
i dont see that many jettas and passats in nhra.
i see lots of crx n domestics.
take ur crap out of a honda board. if u like vw. go to a vw board.
u are officially marked a troll on my book.

if you like your damn german cars so much, go get one and leave the board.
i was just comparing the high revving aspect of their engines. you said the rsx type-s is weak, what other production car out there has 200hp from 2.0L non-aspirated? NONE.
bimmers are great cars, but when things start going bad they will cost you an arm and a leg to fix. yup, great german engineering there.

well... personally i would like more torque where the rpms drop after shifting... so a really high torque rating at a lower for more city driving... not flooring it all the time
iNteGraz92,
Have you ever driven a 3 series???
Having a g/f who just got rid of her 325i, I'll chime in here. She went from a CL-S to the 325i. In terms of content, the 325i was a rip-off... You are right about getting one for ~30k... aint gonna happen. They base at 27,xxx and only go one way from there... In fact, the price accelerates faster than the car
What is sad is that things standard in other cars are options in the BMW... things like CD player, cruise control, etc. In terms of value, the BMW is close to ZERO (IMO). Her car stickered at 35k and had options like real wood (big deal), real leather, premium package, etc...
But, on the road, the standard suspension made the car handle like nothing else. The car is tremendously stable in turns, braking is phenomal for a sedan, and the body integrity is more solid than the CL-S. The 325i isn't really high revving, and the low end torque is very good. When you figure its a 3400lb car with 174lb-ft, it moves decent, if not very rapidly.
And that is what you pay for...
I know this is kind of off topic, but its a response to the BMW slam. They are nice cars, but its too bad that they are pricey, and mostly status symbols.
Regarding the 1.8T -- Its a great engine, minor issues aside. I've known a lot of recent model VW owners who have been unhappy with window issues and O2 sensors. Of course, there seem to be a lot of TSBs for the 7th gen Civic as well. GolfZillla said it best when he said "Some have issues, some have a lot of issues, and many like me, have none."
