If I SLOWLY rev up to about 5K in second, then push the clutch in and let the rpms drop, I hear a valve actually shut at about 4500, I know VTEC opens higher than the rpm is shuts at so I think it's about 4600-4800rpms. And yes I can kind of feel it. Nothing nuts though
vtec in our civics is so useless.. the acceleration is very slight... i think it's around 4500RPM...but not sure.. i hardly ever hit that mark unless i'm goin' on the freeway...
the v-tec in my 98 lude which is DOHC kicks in at about 4900 rpms and the sound is freakin wicked, i can also feel the car pull harder, it feels as if i have a turbo that just spooled up, i love my h22a
WOW, I don't know whats wrong with me or my car but I can DEFINITELY feel it kick in sometimes. I have a bone stock automatic 2k2 EX coupe and the car actually jolts forward at about 4500RPMs and the engine revs way up. I know it can't be my in head because if my sister is riding with me every time I do it she gets piised off at me. It's actually a lot of fun, but it only happens sometimes, it seems like it depends on what gear I'm in (it's an auto so sometimes its hard to tell) and how fast I accelerate. If I try to get it to do it it only happens about half the time.
I know I can't be crazy but I'm perplexed as to why no one else experiences this.
And the fastest I've gotten it to is about 120MPH

I have a 2k2 EX too, but it's a 5 speed. I feel it, it's just slight, I dont know about a huge jolt foward, keep in mind our tourque curve looks almost like a linear incline around those rpms so naturaly it'll pull harder

The EX has regular SOHC VTEC while the HX has the Lean Burn VTEC-E. 3 stages VTEC engines have 2 VTEC silenoids(sp?). One for the VTEC-E stage and one for the regular VTEC. I'm pretty sure that VTEC "kicks" in at about 4500. Thats when I feel a slight increase in acceleration. That might also be my header.[hr]

Last I recall the EX's only have a single stage Vtec...the HX's have the 3 stage System..[hr]

Here's a run down of engine codes:
D17A1 = DX/LX - non-VTEC
D17A2 = EX - VTEC-E
D17A6 = HX - VTEC-E w/lean-burn
D17A7 = GX - non-VTEC
edit: And under normal acceleration, you can feel a boost in power in the HX at 3100rpm. Under load it'll tend to kick in around 2400-2500rpm.

Not to burst your bubble...but both the EX and HX have VTEC-E.
