This sucks
This sucks
This is depressing. I just read an article that said to have sporty acceleration you should have an power to weight ratio of around 7. Take you cars weight and divide it by you hp. If this is how it should be done I am around 21.5. Now that sh@t sucks.
Yeah, that does suck. BUT,
I would say though that the sporty acceleration they are speaking of is blinding fast. According to the equation you gave, we, in our cars weighing in at roughly 2500 lbs, would need over 350 hp to have that sporty acceleration. I'm sorry, but that is a little bit more sporty than I would call sporty. A 4000 pound car needs almost 550 horsepower. Insane.

true sports car are around that.
the rest are "sporty"
anyhow, 21 sounds about right. thats the # they have at autosite.com too I think.
yeah its sad. especially when the echo has a better power to weight ratio... lol. I think.

also take gear ratios into effect..and not peak HP numbers but the entire power band.. an ITR accelerates pretty damn fast..but going 60mph on the highway and your running at over 4000RPMS because of the short gear ratios.
12lbs/Hp is sporty.. 7/hp is muscle

short shifter doesn't change your gearing ratios, it just changes how fast you can accomplish the actual task of shifting. you'd need an entire tranny rebuild to change your gear ratios.

but...because our tranny's are gay econobox style, we can build our engines to have way more HP, and not have to change the gear ratio
I get a LOT more out of ALL my gears than 'sports cars'...which means if we add more HP, we can rev higher faster...which would make our shifting points just about the same as a 'sports car'.
Damn, I want a fast car
This is just depressing. Talking about trying to squeeze horsepower out of a civic
how much for the STi when it comes out? hehehe

http://www.goldenbig.co.kr/Part_2_files/p2-04-04.htm go to this heading The lower weight ratio per horsepower, the more powerful! not a car but check this out. http://www.speeddemons.com/boost.html it gets like a 1.7 thats fast.
