on board diagnostics

i was at a shop and all they do is build honda's, i asked if they could help me tune my vtec controller and they said it was a pain in the ***, and isn't worth it! after i already bought the damn thing and have it installed they tell me this!! they said i should just sell it and put the first OBD 1 ecu in my car. they said it would be much easier to tune and i could choose when my vtec kicked in. they said it was a fuse that you put in and that sets the rpm! whatever i want it to be. it sounds to good to be true, do u think it would work! the controller helped alot but they said the chip would be better, so what do u think i should do?!! thanks!

Dont f**k with the vtec on our 7thgens, not a good idea. Honda has it were it is for a reason. Im not saying the controler itself is dumb, but trying to tweak specificaly our vtec is a blown engine waiting to happen.

when does your vtec engage! mine engages at 5200 rpms and they said i could make it as low as 3500 rpms. alot of people do it, but i havn't seen anyone have it on our car or have it set that low. i know that you can lower tour timing so much but they said 3000 rpms were fine and safe.

you cant convert our OBDII to OBDI. theoretically, yes, you can splice in the skunk2 adaptor and directly connect to OBDI. the only problem ive found with that is the engine that was used for OBDI spins the oppisite direction of ours. there was another reason but im having a little brain fart right now. but that was the one reason we couldnt do it with my car. we were going to do it so the engine wouldnt sense boost but instead were using a missing link valve, which is actually easier. and dont worry about the vtec controller, it's really not going to do much. my friend with his turbo prelude set his vtec to 8500 rpm so it never even engages since it will work against a turbo if not properly tuned. even so, if you want a little boost in power, get a nice NX kit or save some cash and wait for the SKR turbo kit to become available this spring, itll be more worth your time then trying to tune a vtec controller.
