civic owners:ne problems in winter??

I've been following this site for a long time now, and I really want to get a 7th gen now. But, I saw wondering if any of you guy have or had any problems wid your car in the winter. My dad doesn't like civics since they rather small cars, and thinks that they'll have problems in the winter (ex. slidding, traction, etc.) Hey also thinks that if in an accident, I'll be more prone to injury opposed to a bigger car (i.e. maxima, accord) What you think about this?

The civic has 5 star ratings for crashes all around. Honda puts a lot of research into keeping its drivers alive in a crash.

I also use the civic for my winter car. I have driven it in snow twice now and have no problems. Just gotta drive slow, and you'll be fine.

Civics come with dual front air bags (and side air bags if you want them). They are safe cars to drive in the winter. No traction problems. I've had my car since Feb '02 so I haven't had it in the winter but it's pretty cold up here in Seattle right now and I haven't had any problems. Get a car that you like though. If a 7th gen is what you want then go for it. Cause you don't want to get in that car everyday and think to yourself that you wish you had got something else. Sorry, just wanted to give you my 2 cents. I love my car btw.

The only thing I can say is that weight and size really isn't going to matter much when it comes to snow/ice conditions. That ice can slide a 2500 lb car just as easily as a 5000 lb car, so being small is ok. Also, a civic will have FWD, which sucks for performance but should actually prove safer in those snowy conditions. Someone correct me if im wrong...

7th gen civics are awesome in the winter

but the stock firestone tires are pretty bad.

you could always head up to canada and get a 1.7EL. Standard 4 disc ABS, side air bags and all those kinda features.

I didn't have any problems w/ the Firestones in the winter out in Colorado. I thought the car ran pretty damn smooth. It would have been nice though to see what the GT-S did in the winter though. Only had the damn thing for 7 months.

Our cars are made for safety, and once you get rid of the stock tires, maybe work it into a deal if you buy the car.
Trust me I know, last winter I rolled my car because of the stupid stock tires, and even though she went over I was 100% safe, no injuries what so ever. I would give them a 6 star rating if I could.

Take a look at the pics after the accident ......... Click here

Ditch the firestones and get snows. I replaced my tires and I'm fine. But when I was driving my GFs civic in the snow the other day (equipped w. firestones) I slid into the curb. D'OH.

I'm going onto winter #2 and it's a great car. I must agree though, the stock firestones are terrible for winter traction but they wear out quick enough(25K miles). I replaced them with some decent Michelins. As for being reliable, I was able to start my car in -36 to -38 degree weather.
