Hey guys,
I just bought a 2000 civic hatchback DX and i was wondering if i put a JDM engine in it , (order it from www.streetimports.com) will i have to convert it to US standards? and does it matter what engine i get? i want to get a b16 but i dont know if i should get 160HP JDM B16A , 170HP JDM B16A2, 180HP JDM B18C1, 197HP JDM B18C5, or 200HP H22A. AND i did search!!!! but it just talked about the 7th gens and one 5th gen hatch

Rep Power: 0 go talk to some local import shops, personally i think the b16 is a dog, no power
if i we're you and had the extra money i'd stick with the b18c1, nice engine and plenty of opportunity to grow
ive had quite a few friends that swapped with h22 from prelude and they dont get much traction daily driving, so just a thought

If you want to go turbo.. a B18B is the best option because it has the strongest internals and lower compression so it can run decent boost stock..

Rep Power: 0 H22.. Most potential and fastest stock by far. Its also cheaper than both a b18 and b16 I am pretty sure. For more info goto ClubSi read the hybrid forum lots of info there. Traction problems can be handled by better tires....
Edit: This shouldn't be "quick" you need to do LOTS of research and find out which one is the best for you, there are even more options than an h22, b16, b18, jdm, usdm. Some are LsVtec, and CRVtec just read and get as much info before you choose.

Rep Power: 302 The revs of a B18 is awesome but I'd much rather take the H22. Great technology with larger dispacent = tourque. If I ever did a swap in my 02 EX it'd def be an H22. My buddy has one and it is and incredible engine. Honda!

Rep Power: 0 OBD2 b16A2(b16sir2 J-spec) is what you have to stay legal than you need an engine atleast from the same year or newer than the car, most of the JDM motors wont pas smog tests if you are in CA. i suggest you read up A LOT about swaps before you do one.

Rep Power: 0 Yeah, if you are looking for a b series motor that new than the US spec is probably the only choice. There are JDM obd2 type R motors for sale but we are talking 5-6 thusand dollars for that. If you have enough money and hart for something like that we might see your hatch in the import magazines one day. A USDM b16 or b18c will pass smog no prob.

Rep Power: 0 get the B16A2. Cheapest I saw was about $1000 for the engine (50k miles) + about $5-600 labor. At least that's how much u can get it for in LA. If u don't have some kind of connections a swap is a total ripoff.

this would be a good starting point IMO.
Description: "Go with a B20," is what a lot of people are saying nowadays. This is a good block, for a street car looking for the best bang for the buck HP numbers over stock 1.6 and 1.8 liter motors. This block features the following details:
IB Spec Wiseco Pistons, JE pistons, or Arias Pistons. You choose!
Eagle Rods or Probe Rods
Bore, Hone, Hot tank, Deck (if nec)
Balanced Crank
Polished Crank
All new Bearings & Thrusts
All new seals, and Oil pan Gasket
New VTEC oil pump
New VTEC water pump
LS/VTEC Oil line Kit with all fittings
Compressions come in 9:1, 9.4:1, 10.5:1, 11.8:1, 12:1, 12.5:1
Price: $3050 Shipped. For the amount of HP you gain per money spent, you will be hard pressed to better this block choice for the street on pump gas
