With upgrades... the neon will probably kill it in a straight line... but once it comes time to turn... AWD will eat the neon.
you're gonna sit here and tell me that upgrade for upgrade the neon will be the wrx in a straight line?
c'mon man, i know the neon is quick, but its no match for the scooby. its all about torque which the wrx has more of, not to mention, even in a straight line, the neon will sit there and spin while the wrx takes off without a sound from the wheels.

So which car is the better one to buy, especially for doing upgrades ? The Neon looks like it'll be a hot car!
Turbo 2.4L ,0 - 60 in 5.8 secs, and priced under 20,000.00!
Well the two cars will defintely handle differently. One's FWD and the other AWD. Obviously the Subaru will get the jump in the launch every time. However, with a well trained driver and good FWD launch, I don't think the Neon will be far behind. Let's not forget that it's about $4000 cheaper, which will give you plenty of money to purchase Mopar upgrades that will give you the advantage over the WRX.
It all comes down to how you want to spend your money. They're both fast and they both have their disadvantages. I must say that it's an interesting time to be a car lover. So many fast cars out there that don't cost a lot.

WRX: 217 @ 4000 rpm
SRT-4: 245@3200
Not only does the peak torque get there earlier but there's a lot more of it.

By the way, I read that Subaru is starting to take a stand against modding your WRX. A new engine is upwards of $8000-10000 CDN! I don't blame them. The car is only designed for so much power, just look how the tranny gives at around the 300HP mark!
Dude, the neon is more of a chick car than the celica! C'mon guys, I thought we all had a little taste on this board. It's like buying a Cavalier Z24. I mean, The Z24 isn't slow.. especially compared to civics... and it's got plenty of mods out there. You can supercharge it, turbocharge it.. you can do anything you want to the Cavalier.. BUT IT'S A GAY CHICK CAR THAT'S BUT UGLY! Cavalier Z24 + Neon SRT-4 = almost cool car. I can see it now, some of you will trade in your civics for a neon. I can't believe some of you are so wrapped up in a piece of crap waiting to happen. Everyone here dogs the SVT Focus (I know it's not as fast as the neon) but atleast the Focus is made by Ford. Ford is having problems with the new cobra, big deal... they're still a reputable company that has produced quality muscle cars, economy cars, trucks.. etc. There are always people that hate ford, love chevy or hate the Dallas Cowboys and Love Greenbay FudgePackers.. it's all about preference. My point is, I have talked to 3 or 4 viper owners. Out of all of them, one guy liked his viper. The rest of them had owned theirs a few years and said the only thing good that comes with having a viper is the attention. The car is ratty, interior sucks, and they made a lot of viper lemons. Leave it up to dodge to make an incredible machine comparible to a ferrari, and let it go to crap. Out of those guys I mentioned.. two of them have traded their vipers in. One dude bought a new Hummer H2, the other is on a waiting list for a new ferrari. My final word on the subject: You guys might end up with a neon that's been modded all to hell and runnin low 12's on street tires, but I won't even be able to race you at the light. My reaction time will suck because me and my buddy next to me will be too busy laughing at the DUDE driving a neon. Later.

So it's wrong for someone to have fun in a "gay chick car"? I've said it before, if you guys are too worried about image and being close minded to other cars, and you'll miss out on a lot of fun cars out there.

"Hmm you mention torque:
WRX: 217 @ 4000 rpm
SRT-4: 245@3200
Not only does the peak torque get there earlier but there's a lot more of it."
aye, however, this is relating to the WRX VS Neon reply. I doubt youll find too many SRTs cutting 1.8s
edit: that was in refrence to Mike.

Well, lets compare 100' times for the non-believes:
1996 Ferrari F-50: 2.9 seconds
2003 Dodge Viper SRT-10: 2.8 seconds
2002 Lan-Evo VII: 2.6 seconds
2002 Honda Integra Type R: 3.2 seconds
1995 Eagle Talon TSI: 2.8 seconds
1997 Prelude SH: 3.3 seconds
2003 Mazdaspeed: 3.3 seconds
2000 Impreza 2.5RS: 2.9 seconds
Do you see where I am going with this? The faster cars are the AWD ones in the first 100' and it didn't matter how much torque either one had! The RWD times were second and followed by FWD being last.

There isn't even a need to debate which is better. Dodge neons are known for being pieces of junk. Now, they have gone and thrown a turbo on the ****! Yea, that's definately going to make that reliability go up.
It's fast, it's bad, and it's cheap. AND what kind of performance car do you really think you are getting for that kind of money? It's like the people who buy a civic and expect it to have a $50k paint job and ride like a lexus! WTF!
Oh, isn't the neon a redneck or trailor-park trash car? I am sure that will stir up some excitement.

Just an observation that I have always noticed about neon drivers. I dare say all but a good many. Who cares anyway..I was just stirring up some trouble..

Basically calling a mexican a wetback is like calling a black person the N word. They don't like it
Wow...I can't believe I spent 30 minutes reading this drivel...
I've driven a WRX...I own a Neon..and just recently sold my 91 2.5L TURBO Dodge Shadow 5 speed (modded..of course)
Sorry, but I was NOT impressed with the WRX...Sure, you have to rag the living F**k out of it off the line to make it go ANYWHERE. Yeah, it'll cut 1.8sec 60 foot times, but, what, by sidestepping the clutch at 6 grand? Sorry, that isn't my idea of fun (having to do tranny exploding launches in order to make it go fast) Driving the WRX? Sure, it's cool, but $25,000 worth of cool? Hardly. From a roll, the car stock really has nothing. My 91 Shadow would have eaten the WRX alive from 5mph+.....
Torque? Neon. Reliability? Like Mike said, that motor has been around for nearly 5 years in the turbo form, and longer N/A. Turbo Chrysler reliability? Chrysler produced MORE turbocharged cars than any other company, EVER. Plain and simple. I bought my shadow used, with 125,000 miles on it. I raised the boost from 7psi to 14, intercooled it, opened up the exhaust, and drove it HARD till 150,000 miles, then sold it to my little brother. Never burned a drop of oil. Just did regular maintanance to it.
Did anyone forget to post that the SRT has been tested at a 14.0 @ 102 MPH?! I believe that trap speed is a TAD higher than a WRX, which suggests that while with FWD, it still pulls off almost the same 0-60, gets to the 1/4 a bit quicker, and at a much higher terminal velocity.
If you don't like the Neon, then that's cool. But don't knock it.
And simply saying that the SRT is a shitty car just because it's a domestic, or a neon is simply retarted, and ignorant. It makes me ashamed to even be associated with this board. Ricers, go end yourselves...please....
