Need opinions for project car.
I want to buy a old car (90-96), and fix it up so I can drag race and beat all the firebirds/supras/corvettes at my local race track. now i dont really care what make it is, as long as i can have a car under 10g's that can own the cars i mentioned above. i was thinking about a b18c/integra maybe a 95, what do you guys think? any opinions/ comments would be greatly appreciated. thx
i understand that you are feelin inferior, and probably due to the fact that god didnt bless you with much "MANHOOD", but if you are serious about wanting to be able to keep up with, or even beat those american muscles on the streets, you better start doin your research. askin questions is good, but start readin up on what engines pack the biggest punch, and which have the most potential. your on the right track as far as the B18C platform. if you're thinkin about the JDM or USDM Type R engine, your only options are really to increase the compression or to supercharge it. if you turbo that sucker, theres a high risk you'll blow that puppy up. not smart financially speaking. and also, to get ownership of a older civic/integra, is going to be atleast 2000-6000 for a decent shell w/ or w/out engine. then to buy the B18C engine, its gonna cost you atleast another $2000 depending on which B18 you choose. and then the install it, its gonna run you atleast another $1000. so that right there is a good $5000-$9000 w/ a decent shell and a B18 sittin in its engine bay. now, you're not gonna be able to just take that car on the street and be able to tread water with the big boys. your gonna have to dump atleast another $1000-$3000 building up the engine, either with ALL MOTOR internals, Supercharger, or Turbo if you go with the LS or GSR engine. either way, i dont see you being able to keep up with those guys without spending a good $12K plus... and then you still gotta factor in your driving ability...which im guessing isnt too good just by the idea of this thread topic.... kids these days... all they got on their mind is FAST & THE FURIOUS...
Yes, get ready to spend alot of money. You can get a 91-94 Sentra SE-R for about 3k and turbocharge it to get into the 400WHP range. Trust me. If you want info go to sr20deforums.com. Peace
hahaha good luck beating supra's, corvette's, and firebirds haha, no seriously these guys are right unless you've got lots of cash to spend you aint getting an integra into the 10s I dont care what type it is
(gsr, type r etc.) . now someone mentiond the eagle talon/eclipse/Laser, yeah a first or second gen. turbo version either the FWD or the AWD will get the job done with some upgrades and it will cost you a whole lot less , I used to drive a 1990 Plymouth laser rs turbo (fwd with 160 000 kms) it was fast I beat mustang gt's all the time and I could keep up with cobra's till about third gear, but again what out and make sure you get one thats in good shape cause those cars suffer from tranny problems, oil leaks , and mitsubishi engines burn alot of oil.

CRX all the way man... you can make those into mad drag cars Iv seen em run 9s at my local strip well... Iv seen one... run a 9.4434353 whatever it was but it was under 10 in the 1/4
Well, I'm not sure about some of the other cars, but CRX would be a cheap way to go. Get a used CRX for maybe 1500, then put the rest of you rcash into the engine and suspension. B18C1 for 3+ thousand. Then turbo it. If you spend your money right, then you could probably build the internals and get mad boost. But some of those other cars have better stock internals I think. Talons, Eclipse, Sentra, etc... So maybe that would be better. CRX is hella light though. (Oops, I said hella! Hella, hella, hella!!)

Best bet... buy an F-body. My friend rebuilt a 91 Firebird... it runs low 11's. Car for $2500, $5000-$6000 for GM 406 ci Block, beefed internals, custom cam, 9 inch rear end, custom drive shaft, new tranny, MSD, more stuff than I can think of, and a 150 shot.
Well you can get an old CRX, or hatch and drop an h22 in it.... it has about 175 whp stock and loads more torque and has more potential than a b18. Drop that in and some how squeeze a turbo in it you can have over 500 hp if you build it right.

Get a K20A, a saddle, and 20-in wheels. put the wheels on the side of the engine and the saddle on top. Then, you can go with a turbo or ram air. I promise you, you'll be pulling under 9.
Here's what I want to do:
1995 Mustang w/351W swap & Tremec T56 6-speed. AMMX driveshaft & 3.73 LSD.
I'll keep it EFI and mod the hell out of the engine for NA, and if that doesn't give me enough power than I'll slap a blower on it.
Now I just gotta cross my fingers and hope I get my new job tomorrow.

actually a h22 would be the cheapest way to get power out of a crx/hb but if it was me i would do a b18 it has more potential than a h22 and a h22 would really throw your handling off
since everybody has mentioned a honda/acura, you can try looking for an eagle talon tsi awd, or old turbo dsm's. they come stock turbo and have no problems running low 14's wit a few mods.
be ready to spend money to get some real speed.

My bro has a gutted out CRX that he bought at a junkyard for 800 and he dropped in a JDM B18c5 into it. He did all the internals plus suspension, and slapped on some slicks and he usually could take them at the tracks. I was in his car when he took a reall fixed up s2000 on the freeway. When Im in his car and he burns it and peels out, everytime he shift I can feel my head jerk, because that damn thing has so much power. IMO get a CRX. all these hondas aren't gonna hang with domestic muscle for under 10 grand. you're looking at 12-15 plus. and a lot of the domestic racers are older (in their 30's and 40's), and are frequent weekend racers, meaning they've most likely got some pretty hardcore rides.
