motocycle question
hi, im looking to get a motocycle after winter, but im a NEWBIE with bikes, for a starter, which motocycle is good to go?i guess nothing more than 600cc, but which one is good?honda/suzuki/yahama/kawasaki and would it be good to get a second hand first and than once im really into it i get a better one?thanx for the input ahead
Yamaha R6's are money. But for a starter I would get a used bike. Everyone lays down their bike at leats once. Might as well do it on a bike that has probably already been laid down before. Learning to ride the bike is more important than having a nice bike. Might wanna check out some honda CBR's or Kawasaki Ninjas. Those are usually good to start out on. Maybe like a 500cc.
im looking to do the same thing macrossranma. Im really considering a Honda CBR 954RR. They are built a bad azz. DOHC and its the heaviest bike that honda ever produced. Its 600lb. I like it and really considering that as a sport bike. Check it out on CBR954RR
I have a ZX6R 2001 and I'm not bored with it. If you think buying anything like a 600 for a first bike is smart, you'll end up hurt or dead. Most guys on the big bikes are dirt bikers for years and know how to handle when the bikes wanna get goofy.. I had a Virago 535 for my first bike and it was great for a year and then I got the 600. It still scares me at times how fast it is and unless you live in BFE, you're going to be around crappy drivers all the time and believe me when I say it'll be a lot better to have a bike you can kind of control.
Take it from someone who's lost 3 friends on bikes because they couldn't controls their bikes....get youself a starter bike like a Kawasaki 500 and you'll enjoy it for awhile. Then you should be able to sell it to another newbie and move on to a 600. Unless you're very experienced you should be happy with a Honda F4i or a new ZX6R for a long time.
Have fun and keep the shiney side up

test out a couple different before you buy. when i had my bike before i just bought a 600cc cause i thought i would get myself killed if i went bigger. after a while i just got a little bored and a bit envious after riding a friends 750cc bike. it wasn't much of a jump but it was more fun to ride.
are you planning on buying new or used? if you are buying a 600cc buy used. at least if you do want to go bigger you can move up without paying too much extra

Speed wise, the 600's and the 900's and up will be pretty close up untill about a 100-110. Then the higher cc bikes will pull more. The main difference in them is the torque. If you get a 600, you'll have a blast, but like it was said before, you will get board. You will crave the torque. Trust me, I've worked in the motorcycle industry for about 3 years and have rode bikes for quite sometime and everyone I know says go bigger for the torque. And get a nice set of leathers... eg: coat, GOOD gloves and a nice lid before you ride. Factor that stuff into the cost because that will run you from 500 and up for those three items. Have fun

all this talk about bikes is making me think on getting another one. i just got another job that is about an 80km drive. if i use my civic i'll go over my limit for sure on my lease. the only other thing i can do is plan on buying out the civic and not worry about a bike
Any way you look at it... a motorcycle is gonna be faster than any car you've ever been in. So doesn't matter how much displacement you have... you're gonna be movin'. I would just get something to learn on and once you get good get something nice.

i don't have experience with bikes at all, but i can say this: start within your abilities. if you're a noob, then get a newbie bike that you can learn well on. overstepping your abilities is what gets a lot of people hurt, especially on bikes. also, nothing, and i mean nothing, can replace experience. the more you ride, the more familiar with bikes you will become and you will be better able to respond to quirky situations.
my friend has a CBR and an R6.. i believe the cbr is a 99-00.. not sure but the R6 is a 2001.
personally i like riding the R6. Seems more agile and so much lighter. Another bike that i thought was heavy was the katana. (i didnt like that one at all) If anyone can back me up if he should get a light bike that'd be nice. I dont even slightly consider myself informed on bikes. Just lettin ya know what i felt more comfortable on.

I have rode bikes for almost 10 years. I would highly recommend you get an older HondaCBR600 like late 80's early 90's, why? You will drop this bike i will gurentee it. You wanna ride this bike for a good year or 2 cause you dont wanna drop a $7000 R6. Like I said with all the riding experiance i have, you never know what can happen. On of my last bikes I came up to a stop light and put my foot down right in a little oil well, down goes the bike with nothing that can be done but set it down as slow as possiable.

No, it's 370lbs. Go ahead and follow your link to the bike and click specifications. Also, notice the product description says "...with the weight of a 600." Meaning, it weighs about the same as a 600cc bike.

my friend who has been riding for like 10 years told me if i want to get a good first bike get a Yahmaha Seca 600 (cause they are light) or a Suzuki GS 500 (which was rated the #1 starter bike a couple years ago) Both bikes you can find for cheap, just go on ebay, and have enough power to keep you satisfied for a year or two. But thats my friends recomendations some people might think differently.
