A new member of the family
Hey all, haven't posted in a loonngg time. Busy with work 14 hours a day, 7 days a week. Anyways, just wanted to let you guys know I'm gettin a new member of the auto family this weekend. In addition to the 2k1, and my old dodge challenger, I am now picking up an ae86. For those of you who do not know what this car is, it is an 86 toyota corolla GTS. 4 wheel disc brakes, inline dohc 4 banger, rear wheel drive (roughly 120 hp stock, redlines at 7500 rpm). Mine is a hatchback which needs a little bit of work, but mechanically it is spotless. With 100k it has no oil leaks, and runs perfectly. The previous owner was a drift racer who bought this car to race, and never finished the project...a steal for 1000 bucks! I'll post picks of my rides soon.
There are 3 AE86 for sale here, one for $300, one for $1200 and one for $1500 CDN. Now, I would love to get one but for those prices those cars must be beaters. I don't know if I want to dedicate myself to spend tons of money to look nice.
Ask me about your mom.

It is a 1972 dodge challenger, red with black stripes. It has a 318 built by bayshore racing pushing about 450 hp at the crank, it's got an automatic 904 with a cheetah valvebody, and an 8 3/4 rearend with 4.11's. It pushes a solid 12 in the quarter. I want the eighty six because I am tired of drag racing. It's fun, but I want more of a challenge. In response to the "beater 86's" in another thread, they may not be in that bad of shape, but they could also be sr5's (sohc, rear drums), and those are not worth anything. The eighty six I'm buyin is in decent shape, but if you can find a gts in good shape it will probably run around 2-3k in most cases. Don't worry everyone, still love the civic, it's a killer daily driver, and I love the way it looks!
Ripper - these cars are not the AE85 but the definitly the AE86. Are winters are harsh here though and the older toyotas just don't stand up. Chances are the cars are rusted and beyond repair!
Here is one for $4000 CDN or about $2500US

And this one for $1200 CDN or about $750 US

Ripper - Really? It looks like it has primer gray paint on it and chances are it's fenders are rusted. Oh well, I'll give a couple of them a call and see what kind of condition the interior is. I mean, for $750US, you can't go wrong even if it's a beater. My gf's parents both have the 4-dr versions of the hatchback corollas and one has over 600,000km(375K miles) on it without a rebuild! Insane or what? The other has about 190K miles on it and it's still running hard.

Considering the whole body of an 86 can be replaced for about 2g's, I'm not worried about body damage, even rust per say. I know the fenders run abou 90 bucks each, carbon fiber hood and spoiler about 700, fiberglass hatch another 300, then all thats left is doors and rear clip. Oh yeah, bumpers, if you want american their about 200 for both. Japanese bumpers are a little more expensive but are well worth it. Its a really cheap car to build. Like I said, I'm pickin mine up for a little under a grand, and there is no rust damage. It needs a new driverside fender, grille, and driver door (these parts are a little roughed up, repairable, but I'd rather spend the same amount and get new parts), but the rest of the car is in great shape, so cheap ones are out there. Ripper - Do you think it would be worthwhile to import an AE86 from Japan? I know here in Canada, to be allowed to import a vehicle, it has to be 15 years old minimum. So, it's easily done.

If you import one you will more than likely pay an arm and a leg for it, plus shipping, plus duties and taxes. AE86's are a dying breed in Japan, and people are actually buying them here and selling them over there for about 3-4 times as much, so I doubt it would be worthwhile.
I'm 6'5" tall. Do you think there is enough room? For comparison, I have a 2001 civic LX, I can fit into it okay but not a EX. If there is enough room, I think I'll be phoning around. I found one for $190US here in running condition.
Special Engine = Toda Red-top!
Well, the $750US car is sold already and I wouldn't even bother about the $190US one, it's probably a junker or somebody's parts car. So, I can't find one at all. Oh well, gotta keep my eyes open for them.
