big a$$ rims ruin it for everyone else
big a$$ rims ruin it for everyone else
i have come to the conclusion that people driving around in civics with 18, 19, and 20" rims have ruined it for everyone else...
the ex coupe comes w/ 15" wheels, and a 17" wheel and tire combination is a +2 combination.....generally speaking, the largest you want to go (when concerned w/ performance at all).....
i have seen so many cars and pictures of cars w/ huge rims, and even though they look awesome....it just dwarfs everything else out there...
when i first got my 17's they looked huge compared to my 15's...but now i look at cars w/ 18, 19, and 20's and my 17's look TINY now...

I have 215/35/18's for show, they look good and handle well but the sidewall is so thin, many potholes can cause a contact blowout. The myth that larger rims make the car slow is crap, my 18" rims weigh less than the stock steelie or the previous generation SI rims, so therefore they have less rotational mass, and are easier to get up to speed. That means that my 18's are actually faster (by .0000000000001 sec in the 1/4 mile at MOST) than the stock tires. It's the weight of the rim, not the diameter that matters. My daily drivers are a set of stock steelies complete with hubcaps, with Potenza tires.

Dosen't lower profile tires such a 35 's on 18" wheels means less sidewall flex which can help with handling?[hr]

This is true with most tires, yes. Less chance of the tire's sidewall wrapping around the rim and busting.

Bleh, I don't see the point of having 18s and 19s except just for show. I know people want them because some think 17s look too small. I'd hate to deal with a low profile tire either way. I personally wouldn't go higher than 17s though they still rank among 18s and 19s as something that will cost you performance.
16s seem to be the most unpopular size IMO for people who want to compromise with performance and looks.
15s... as long as you're not using the stock hubcaps, some nice 15 inch rims can still make the car look good. One of my favorite examples of this is my friend's ride:

If it's for looks, then 17's are nice if the spokes come up to the lip. 18's are nice for looks when they're recessed with a polished lip. 19's are too huge no matter what IMO.
