come on.. your talking to some guy who lives in the ghetto part of LA. theres plenty of pot holes here too. i've hit a couple big ones pretty hard and they're still fine.
One thing you have to keep in mind is that as you increase rim size, you inevitably get lower profile tires and thus have less tire volume to work with. This means you have to inflate your tires to a much higher pressure to support the weight of your car. When I had heavy 17" rims with 205/40/17 tires, the tire manufacturer told me I had to inflate up to the max pressure (44 psi!) to support the weight of my Civic. The phone rep even added that I was "dangerously close to an improper application".
I ended up bending one of the 17" rims on the god-awful streets of Houston. I didn't even know it was bent, until I was balancing the tire/wheel combo and saw the wheel wobble like crazy on the Hunter balancing machine. So after that I said screw that and switched to lightweight 16's with fat 215/50/16 tires.

IMO, 15s and 16s are great for daily driving. 17s and 18s are great if you drive less than 10 miles a day and usually hang out at the local parking lot full of imports at night blaring bass. 19s and 20s are show only or if you drive less than 5 miles a day on super smooth concrete

Well I want 17" but the price for them and the attraction to thieves in this area keeps me out of them still but depends 17" is for performance and cushion and 18" + is for show and $$$
So I will keep the silver 15" hubs now since the winter is here and the hubs match my silver ride
