I have a 2001 model....first one that rolled out of the dealer when they just arrived...I did all the research I could done at the time, and I already knew it wasn't going to be fast...I don't care about being fast...I bought my car out of necessity...I had waited 1 year for a good car and all I could buy were worthless POS available at the time, when the 2k1 civic arrived, i bought it mostly 'cause of it's reputation...a supposed to be nice comfortable reliable car....'cause my brother owned at the time a 97 civic, very very VERY good car...

but man...my 2k1...is just problem after problem and frankly I'm just sick of it like I said before WORST CIVIC EVER MADE!!!!

I would've traded my 2k1 for an RSX-S a year ago...but we don't get those here...so I'm just waiting for what the hell else gets to this crummy country so I can traded it
was thinking about the 2003 Accord...but come to think of it....maybe not

Cyclosporine: It's sad but true...given what you and I went through with our first year model Civic I would strongly suggest you to stay away from the 03 Accord. Wait until the next year and see others' feedback first.

Edit: I don't think Honda even want to take care of the quality issues on these Civic. It's still selling well so why bother? It's been two years and the 03s are still having problems we had with the first model year. At this time they are only selling their reputation to uninformed consumers as everyone take it for granted buying a Honda = buying quality.
Sorry, but the Focus is just another example of how Ford USA is not focused on quality. The Focus pretty much was brought over from eurpoe to replace the escort.
Actually, the Focus is the Contour's replacement. The Escort is still around as the ZX2.
Actually the Escape is the contour's replacement. I know it's an SUV, but the people over at ford decided that people wanted an SUV more than a car.

I've owned my '01 Civic for about 14 months now and there really haven't been any new annoyances other than the rattles so they aren't quite as annoying as a matter of principle since the car is over a year old now but I still can't stand them in my ear. I am a first time Honda buyer and I bought the car based on the reputation for quality, and paid higher than other cars in the class, but I don't see it being all that great. Of course, when it is still buzzing around in 10 years that may be another story. I haven't had the problems with the brakes that some have mentioned, but the mileage is still low. No paint problems, other than some chipping on the plastic bumpers, but that's non rustable so I don't care about that too much. The metal will chip to the metal, though if struck with a sharp object such as a gas nozzle, so watch out. I don't think the engine and the tranny will be problems.

Overall, the LX is well equipped enough for me, but I think I paid too much considering the interior quality and the not too comfortable seats, etc. I know that they can be purchased for less now, but I may not go back to Honda for the next purchase, whenever that will be. I am thinking about the next generation Dodge Stratus sedan, to be built on the Mitsubishi Galant platform, or maybe even a Chevy Malibu. The Malibu is a senior citizen's car, but it comes with a V6, has a lot of comfy things and the one tone color models almost look sporty. And you can get one for around the price of a Civic EX. The Malibu gets good ratings in most car review publications.

We'll see, for the time being I'll drive with my rattles.

I don't know what everyone is complaining about. You spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $15,000 for a car and expect it to be invincible while whiping your a$$ at the same time. Has anyone ever bothered to look at consumer reviews for other automobiles? Go check out what some people have to say about BMWs, Mercedes, and other manufacturers that some of you guys think can do no wrong. These people are spending big $$$ for their car, and their are plenty that are bit-ching. Plus, they have more of a right to complain after all the money they spent for a luxury car. You guys bought an economy, compact car and are complaining because not every little aspect is absolutely perfect. I just pray that some of you don't ever spend 50k,60k,70k,etc. on an automobile. There's a good chance that you may get a car that poses many more problems than your so-called awful civic.

I, myself, have had my civic a little over a year now (16,500 miles) and haven't had any major problems. Certainly nothing to complain about. If you hate your civic, and it gives you so many problems, then get another car. It's not a Bentley, it's a Honda (Civic at that).

The only reason I bought it in the first place was to get my driving record clean. It worked, so then I bought the celica. I moved from Colorado to Iowa and now have a Jeep. I dont perticularly care for the civic anymore but I do like 99% of the people on this site so its cool to hang around here.
