My brother-in-law and father-in-law both drive '97 Grand cherokee orvis editions (yes, v8). They are pretty darn fast. 0-60 is somewhere in the low to mid 7sec range. They will tear us apart if you ask me. However, they may break-down while doing it.

Seriously though, they have had several of them and I just don't understand it. Constant problems and expensive ones at that. Jeeps are the worst cars on the road as far as reliability. Whenever I see one, I just can't understand how the person bought one knowing that they are the worst vehicles made...baffles me....especially, when I see a $40k new grand cherokee....idiots

I had a '94 w/ Mopar performance computer and 3" exhaust.

15.3 @ 89 MPH.

Why dragrace a jeep you ask, .503 RT's and 15.3's consistantly, time after time over 10 times...

take home any bracket trophy you want.

I'll race you in my 02 Limited if you want. Just drive to Iowa.
Seriously though, I dont race at all. They arent meant for it. Anyone who races SUV's either on the street or at the track in a complete moron.

On a lighter note, it is sad that this Jeep would have had no problem in beating my old Celica GT-S.

Ok, see here is why I can call B.S. on rice boys, lol, they have no idea what low end torque is, LOL, he would beat you off the line due to his 365 Ft/Lb of torque at 3- - - RPM

Really? Worst vehicles made? Maybe you mean the newer ones. I've had 4 different 87-90 cherokees and a 93 grand cherokee, all of them had well over 100000 miles. Yeah, the 4cyl renault turbo diesel one (it was my favorite too) died due to a hole in the block, and the one with the GM 2.8 wasn't the greatest either. The 3 i still have came with the the 4.0 I6, which i agree should be a lot more reliable than the V8 models. I think the most expensive maintainence was when the wheel bearing went bad on the '90.

Most of those jeeps were high 15's or low 16's in the 1/4 mile stock.

And yeah, they have all that low end torque... it's for pulling stumps and trailer homes. It's not exactly a monster off the line or something. Hell in my S2000 I have a friend with the new limited grand cherokee (with some kind of ignition or fuel performance system) and off the line WITHOUT launching, he takes the lead for about the first 15 feet or so. Then I'm gone. WAY before I even get near my power band.

my brothers friend has a 97 v8 cherokee and my brother has a 92 prelude si (160hp) ....and these fools raced each other at like 3 a.m. in the morning on an empty street....keep in mind that my brothers si is a automatic with i/h/e , dropped 2'' with 17" ADR rims and thats all....my brother barely won by 1/2 car length...he said that the cherokee had him took at the line tho...anyways my bro beat the cherokee...i couldn't believe it either...
