Racing Civics

Im pretty new to this forum, but I am buying an 02 EX 5spd in the next week or so, so naturally I have been reading quite a bit on your forums and I notice a lot of emphasis put on 1/4 miles and 1/8 miles and racing for speed. Maybe its just me, but I dont understand why go through all the HP and performance packages when the car is not capable of beating other cars ( I understand some do it for fun as well which I think is fine), but, rather than street racing the civics, where it gets beaten up a lot by mustangs, etc, why not mod them to race in autocross, where they can do some real damage. Civics perform quite well in SCCA meets, cuz they are small and handle much better than bulky-assed mustangs and cars of that sort. I dont think it cost a whole lot to autocross, just a set of racing tires that you use each season. I myself enjoy whipping around turns at speeds that would toss passengers around like pingpong *****, so why not put the car on a track where it can compete effectively. I think u can still mod the car and make it look nice too! Just my 2 cents

in that respect, using that logic, why not buy a miata? it would dominate in the auto-x, as would a new MR-S, used MR2 AE86.. S13/S14... and on and on and on...

BTW the 02 Sis are about the same as new EXs. Shop around. the fact that they arnt selling would be a boon to you if you can get over its looks.

The reason I wrote that is because I am pretty sure for the cost of the civics, they compete very well in solo II, plus I am driving in winters also...so miata, and most sporty small cars are absolutely terrible. I just know where I go to school I see tons of civics that are all done up...and some of them just look plain overdone and I thought that Solo II SCCA would be an alternative and give mods a real competitive purpose rather than just flash. I would get an SI cuz that design actually handles great, but I personally think it is ugly as sin, but who knows...maybe if i drive it I would like it.

Put some 17's on the new Si/SiRs and it'll definately grow on you.

I plan on finding out how a Civic will AutoX next weekend. I also don't care how fast it goes in a straight line. If I wanted to drag, I would have bought an F-body. There isn't much skill involved in that. Driving through corners is more about how you drive rather than how much power you've got.

I ran my car last weekend (Oct 6th). I can easily say that it was the best time I've ever had on 4 wheels!

I can tell you from personal experience that a 2001 EX Civic can win the Pan Am Region SCCA HS class championship TWO years in a row!!! AND that's with competition at EVERY event.
