Honda oil change OW3NS me!!!

So I went to get my 3rd oil change at Honda. My car has 11,500 miles on it. The guy told me to go home. He said that I was changing my oil too much and it wasn't good for the car. He said he'd actually get in trouble if he did it. Even the sticker that they put on my car said my next change was due 9/2 or 10,975mi. I'm at a loss here.

wtf, its not that early. well unless if you were using synthetic. my first was 5,000 then i plan on doing it every 3,000 after that. if it was synthetic i would probably do it every 5,000.
hold up and changing it too much isnt good? i dont see whats wrong with that.

I'd say the tech at the dealer was either hungover or drunk because thats the biggest load of B S that I've ever heard of. You can't change your oil "to much". Thats like saying that you could breath to much. I'd conplain to Hondas Customer Service dept.

BTW was the oil change a "free one" because I got 3 free oil changes from my dealer, and they said they could only do it if I left the car there all day, but if I paid I could drive right in, I hate Dealerships.

Changing your oil too often doesn't hurt the car at all. It sounds like someone didn't want to get his hands dirty .

Technically, that's right (or whatever is recommended in your manual). You don't need to change your oil every 3000 miles...at least that's what Consumer Reports says:

Myth: Engine oil should be changed every 3,000 miles.

Reality: Although oil companies and quick-lube shops like to promote this idea, it's usually not necessary. Go by the recommended oil-change schedule in your vehicle's owner's manual. Most vehicles driven under normal conditions can go 7,500 miles or more between oil changes. Some models now come with a monitoring system that alerts the driver when the oil needs changing. Depending on driving conditions, these can extend change intervals to 10,000 or 15,000 miles.

I am pretty sure that the manual is talking about regular motor oil. I'll have to check though.

The oil change intervals listed in the manual (at least my 01 Civic manual) refers to standard or synthetic - Honda says to change at the recommended intervals regardless of oil type used.

3k is a ploy to increase revenue. That is all it is.

I use the honda brand oil in my car. Cost $30 bucks for the change at the dealer. The guy said the honda oil is made by mobil.

I had a similar situation when I asked for synthetic. The service writer, which I have been seeing for about 4 yrs now, absolutely refused to put syn in the car. He said that it wasn't necessary and a complete waste of money. So, I started using the honda oil.

Also, at my last change, they added 5k to the mileage in for the reminder sticker instead of 3k.

I don't see how you can change your oil too much. The only damage that is going to be done is to your wallet. Personally, I plan to keep my vic until 150k and will be changing the oil frequently. Even though it is redundant, it makes me feel better.

I agree that you can go to 5000 miles between oil changes, but if this guy wants his oil changed regardless of the amount of miles on it he should be able to get it changed. I guess from what I read later is that it was a friend of his that worked at the dealer and was giving him some friendly information, so it wasn't like a total stranger was trying to blow him off. (that didn't sound right did it)

Honda says you can drive the car under 'ideal' conditions and change it every 10K. The dealer translated that into the real world as 7500 miles, but recommended the first 2 be done at 5000 and 10000 miles then you can extend the interval to 7500. But I've never heard that changing it sooner is bad, just waste of money.

That's total bs. What if you had taken your sticker off, and told him your last oil change was 6000 miles ago - would he still refuse to do it? Or did he actually check your car's records in their computers?

Which dealership did you go to? Pacific Honda on Convoy St. has 2 quick lube bay areas set up now, where all they do is oil changes... and they use Castrol GTX 5w20 for our cars. I was in and out in 30 minutes, no hassle.

Dude, relax...if he doesn't want to do it himself, then that's his prerogative...I know how to change my own oil and I don't do it. So what? Man, sometimes you just flame for the hell of it and it's freaking annoying...

The first scheduled oil change shouldn't be until 10,000. Why are you on your third already?

Don't listen to the manual!!! I have an '81 vette and the manual says to change the oil ever 50,000 miles... right.

Oil is cheap enough, just do it as much as you feel necessary. I change mine ever 2,000 miles RELIGOSLY!

Exactly. Oil changes are cheap insurance, so why not do them frequently and be on the safe side?
