1993 Eagle Talon
Anyone know if this car would be a good project car? I know they've got the Mitsubishi engine (2.0 DOHC), and I can buy the car for only $400. The engine is bad, but I could always get it overhauled..
Any opinions? I know I can always turbo it....

Non Turbo one's no...but they all bur oil after 55k miles..driven really hard..or like an old lady..they burn at 55k .. it's the same engine as I had in my 93 Sonata (92-93 Hyundai sonata's and 93-94 Elantras and tibby's had it).. I'm extremely familiar with it. the N/A version though..the turbo uses the same block and heads..but has completely different internals...N/A that engines capable of 160 horsies at the wheels with only a few mods..and are cheap to rebuild..the starter costs more than a used Long Block...
The first gens are immune from crank walk because they are have 5 bolt cranks, where as the 2nd gens are 4 bolt. This applies only to the 4g63T, ahem, turbonified ones! The first gens also are 4g63, just NA and have a slightly higher compression. The first gen NA can be turbo'ed and actually can create more power as a result, they just can't run as high of boost. A 93 Eagle Talon is a good project car IMO, I just helped a friend with his 90 Tsi AWD. That car is freakin awesome, he is running 14 lbs now, and after we get the injectors, AFC, and a few other goodies installed, he'll be running 17 lbs on 93. Go to the DSM website for more info.
i ahd a 1991 eclipse (same car) running low 13's high 12's and it was awesome car is full of potential...the 1990-1994 talons and eclipse's do NOT crank walk...it is the late 95-99's that do...after 1994 diamond star motors (DSM) sold the plant that builds the engines and the new compnay used different parts altho still called the 4g63 engine...internally its different. that it why the 1st gen come with a 14b turbo and the 2nd gen comes with a t25.....the 14b is a more powerful turbo tho. if you want to get the talon go ahead its a great car but watch it keep it maintained and change the oil regularly
