Honda's are reliable, that is true. But noone busy a civic for performance (x SI), the SVT is most definitely a purpose built sports coupe. Congrats man, if I ever pull up next to you you'll tell from the drool sloppin down my door. Peace

Thanks for all your support for the ones who are supporting me anyhow. Everyone says honda is the most reliable and stuff IMO they arn't neither is ford though but that whole problem with these civics stalling out has to go. My civic the first day I got off the lot the gas tank door would'nt open, 2 week I had it the 2ed gear sencro went out they replaced the whole transmission (im not the only one), 3ed day after the transmission was replaced The CV joint busted leaving me stranded...Plus they do not respond well to Mods either. The SVT focus gets 7HP to the wheels, and 6ftlbs of torque as I have seen in many dynos from individual owners. Needless to say one should be arriving this week or next week.

Popular Science had an article comparing both the SiR against the SVT. Well, the SVT came out on top. They tested that the SVT could pull 0.91g in a corner. Also, it out accelerated the SiR! So, maybe the Focus has something new to offer to the scene? I hope so, I'm tired of seeing it dominated by honda/acura fans.

As for my civic, I am quite disappointed lately on the problems croping up. I almost traded it in on a VW GTI 337 on friday and I eventually will. Can you believe that the insurance for a GTI 1.8T is only $40 more a month than a civic?

As a past owner of 5 differant ford vehicles, I can honestly say that even if the Focus SVT had 220 hp and fired dollar bills out of the a/c vents, I wouldn't touch the thing with a 10' pole. Ford is notorious for crappy quality.... you might think they have gotten better, but in all actuallity, they have gotten worse. They have had more recalls in the past 10 years than honda has probably EVER had up to this point.
Congrats on your focus, but unlike the droolers here, I will wish you good luck in your future ownership of america's most unreliable brand. cheers.

Um, I beg to differ. The 2001 focus had 4 major recalls, with 23 TSB. In comparison, the 2001 civic had 2 recalls and 24 TSB. How much different are they in quality if you only measure by # of recalls?

He was judging the quality of the focus based on his previous experience with fords. I was demonstrating the focus was not crappy at all and was equivalent to the 7thgeneration honda civic. Now 301Civic5, where did I go wrong?

The focus has more recalls in the same period than any other car every produced. It's been in the news and the papers it is so bad. Yea, the 7th gens aren't quite as good as past gens. However, saying that the civic and focus are equal is not only ignorant but just plain foolish.

I honestly can't comprehend how you could actually believe in your statement above. The only way I could see that opinion is if you have never owned a honda before. I have owned 6 of them. MY sister has had 3. Let me tell you something, you aren't going to find a more reliable make or even anything on par with honda besides toyota. Honda and toyota have been top manufacturers as far as reliability for years and this is a well known fact not only to enthusiats, but the general public.

Anyhow, I thinks it's a cool little car as far as the scene goes and the attributes it offers. I hope jhonda got a fluke and never has a problem. Plus, I would like to take a ride in it at the next Charlotte meet if he decides to come out.

Well, as the previous owner of 4 Ford vehicles I can say they're very reliable. My previous Ford (Crown Victoria) now has over 200K on it and the only things ever needed to be replaced was the EGR valve, battery, and tires. My 93 Escort LX was sold with 148K and never gave me a single problem. My 89 Taurus developed a pinging problem on 87 octane, but that was fixed with a fuel system treatment. Our 01 Ranger is still running strong after about a year and a half.

edit: Taurus sold at 129K

Okay, Mbow, before we start anything, lets review the ford focus:

2000: year released
-13 recalls
-30 service bulletins

2001:
-4 recalls
-23 service bulletins

2002depending on trim level)
-10 service bulletins

Now, the first year wasn't amazing but consider that this was a brand new model and not something designed off of a previous platform as our 7thgen civics were. But, please note the improvements with each year as the bugs were worked out.

Now, lets take a look at the 6thgen and 7thgen civics:

2000: Last year of the 6thgen
-Around 40 service bulletins

2001: First year of the 7thgen
-2 recalls
-24 service bulletins

2002:
-4 service bulletins.

I for one have had the pleasure of owning a ford, a chevrolet, a Dailmer-Chrysler, mazda, and now my honda. So, my view is not biased at all.

I can say that the honda is quite well engineered when compared to domestic vehicles but the quality of the 7thgen is a little bit better than domestic quality. I don't like calling the Focus a domestic, it was European designed! Now, doesn't that stand for anything? Aren't BMW, Mercedes, VW, Audi, Volvo, Saab, etc... Designed in Europe? Maybe they might just have the right idea's about things. Just like Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Subaru, Mitsubishi, etc.. Are designed in Japan.

As for saying the focus = civic, I wasn't trying to say they are the same car. But, I was mearly stating that they are comparible in quality.

Even with the problems associated with the current civic, I still think the focus being of comparable quality is a big stretch of the imagination. I don't think I have heard of any hondas burning up.

I don't really care about service bulletins. What I care about are problems that leave me stranded or ones that necessitate a visit to the dealership. Hondas aren't know for being perfect. Hondas are known for keeping you off your feet.

I have owned a ford in the past. I bought a 92 stang gt quite some time ago. Power steering went out 3 days after I bought it. It was repaired and went out again 2 weeks later. Went back to the dealer and gave them the keys and left with my money.

I had a friend that owned a tempo. Trans dropped out- 2x. Father had a taurus years ago and trans went out in it. Current best friend drives a taurus and engine stalls and runs irratically whenever it feels like it.

Anyhow, I would much rather drive an american car than an import. However, until our quality and reliability dramatically improve, I will continue to drive my import and feel ashamed of the crap we build.

Hehe, I was generalizing with the WE. Only the select few don't think Honda is God's gift to the automotive industry. Hell, if I could afford it I'd be driving a Mustang, not a Civic. But I've already put 15K on my car in 4 months, so I need the 44mpg right now.

You may want to check out www.gospeedraisor.com
It's a Ford Dealer in Lafayette, IN... they build up Focuses and sell them tuned off the lot. I think up to 230 HP. They can probably help you out fixing up your new ride. I know some people who have gotten Mustangs done up by them... they know what they're doing. They also built and own a 650+ HP SVT Lightning truck that runs in the 12's.
