Dealership trying to sell a tuneup at 30,000 miles
Recently my girlfriend took her car into the dealership to get her oil changed and I told her to get her air filter and ac filters changed. The car is a 2001 civic and has 30k miles now. The tried to sell her a tune up and say they should be performed at 30k, 60k, and 90k miles. The owners manual says not to change the spark plugs until 110k....... and they gave a long list of other stuff they would check... most of the stuff was just like checking lines for leaks and like putting lube on the door hinges.... has anyone else had a similar experience...... i really don't think the car would need a tune up and they also mentioned checking valve clearance... is this right at 30k miles... i don't think it is.... any feed back is appreciated

That's how the dealer makes money... charging up to a few hundred for just changing filters, greasing things up and giving the whole thing a look-over. I'd say that if you know much about cars, you can do that stuff yourself (save receipts for filters etc. for warranty) Don't let them change spark plugs at 30k, I heard somewhere that it actually hurts performance. I'm at 22k and most people here are under 30k miles.

my dealer has that too....i was just there and looking it over...but they say i should do it even carlier....16000 km...
Spark plugs are good to replace...it does no harm if you don't btu it also does no harm if you do...so you might as well do it IMO...

ya my dealership has that deal at 15,000 30,000, 60,000 and 90,000 lol its a rip off of money!!! i gota get my oil changed asap hehe, i am 700 miles over!! vtec is slackin off alil.
The 30k point is a major service deadline. It means checking the brakes, changing out the air conditioning filter, and doing a lot of other stuff in addition to the usual (oil change, rotate tires, etc). At work today we performed a 30k on some lady's V6 Accord, and after we ran some tests and we found out her fuel injectors were clogged up and she was running lean (NOT good). Luckily her car was still under warranty, so she didn't have to pay the $160 x 6 injectors = $960 it normally would have cost.
Personally I wouldn't bring my car in for the 10k or the 15k, but bringing it in every 30k miles is a good idea.

Dealer tried that with me at 30K Kilmeters.. I changed the A/C Filter myself..almost all the parts on our cars are sealed and greaseless so there's nothing to lube..Our cars are really low maintenance...
yep they try to suker evryonr they can
when I had 10 000 mileson my car the maint. light came on and I didnt know how to reaset it. so I called the dealer and asked if the light comes on every 10 000 miles they said yes I have to bring it to check the brakes, rotate tires and what nut and they wanted something like $100 I told them why dont u tell that sh*t to some other idiot
So I looked at the manual and it says how to reaset the light
by the way nothing in the engine needs to be replaced before 110 000 miles other than oil and filters

Depending on where you live..belts may need to be replaced after 30k.. In canada here with road salt in the winter and such belts dry out and crack and need replacing about twice as often as most places

I would only do the services where they change the tranny fluid, coolant, brake line fluid, or the timing belt. The rest of the services are pretty much them "checking xxxx" and charging you a few hundred bucks for it.

Am I the only one who follows the owners manual????

J/K, I do all the work myself also........ Oh, and I believe that plugs don't need to be changed until 100K miles......... The benefits of newer cars.......
