This grill: Yay or Nay?

One 6 inch by 3 feet piece.

3 Pieces of 6" x 3'. Different shape.

Are these the same materials you can buy at the hardware store?

A lot of people have said if they knew how easy it was to make a grill they would have done it themselves... so since I'm a poor college student I thought maybe buying this and making it might be a better idea than buying the pre-built one from a1grilles for $30.

What do you think?

Thanks guys,

IronFist

Yeah, they look a bit too thin. The design of the first one is just like mine. Better get a thicker one though. Plus you should get aluminum. Won't rust or tarnish.

The second link says it's aluminum.

Hmmm. What kind of paint would work to paint these black? I have a silver car and I want a black grill.

Well, if you want to perfectly paint aluminum, then you anodize it. You can do it at home if you've got the time and the equipment. Read this: Anodizing Aluminum If you don't have the equipment to do that, then you could just paint it with some spraypaint. Just make sure you get some paint that stays rather flexible after drying. This kind of paint will last the longest. The Dupli-Color series of spraypaints are excellent in this regard IMO.

Ya, that stuff is at your local hardware/home improvement store. They might even have something cooler too. I should start selling things like that on ebay too. I would make a TON of money. (I love the quote about all your friends will be envious and people will strain their necks too get a look...) I actually like being stealthy. Hence the name - SleeperCivic. All I need is to make it into a real sleeper. Haha! In good time, in good time!

Hmm, well, today at Menards I picked up two sheets of exactly the same thing that this guy is selling, the 3ft x 6" one, for $.94 each. I don't think 3ft is quite wide enough to make a lower grill, so I bought two. I didn't see the big roll of stuff you guys were talking about for $2.99 tho. Hmmm. Anyway, this weekend when I have access to wire cutters I will start making the lower grill and then if it works I'll post pics.

All you guys with DIY grills, how'd you attach it? Did you just like tie it to the stock on with fishing line or something? Did you have to take the bumper off?
