Asbestos Brake Pads?

Anyone know anything about Asbestos Brake Pads??? Supposedly they are banned in Canada and in some states. They are supposedly performance brake pads that are used in race cars..

I'm pretty sure they're illegal in the states as well. My wife bought a used honda accord and the brakes were squeeking, so I went to check them out. The guy told me the brakes were brand new. He said that brake manufacturers used to use asbestos to keep the brakes from squeeking, but they're not allowed to anymore.

Asbestos is very resistant to high temperatures, which would make it good for a braking system. However it's harmful to inhale the dust from it, and so manufacutrers have moved on to safer compounds.

Forget Raybestos, get EBC greenstuff brakepads, those are suppose to be a nice upgrade, if you do any autoxing then I would suggest EBC redstuff, but don't get those if you do alot of daily driving, the redstuff are heat-activated, there fore it needs alot of heat for them to be effective.
