Auto to Manual conversion
We were arguing about this at work the other day, about whether or not it would be possible to convert an Automatic transmission to a 5 speed Manual transmission. We also decided it would most likely be cheaper just to trade in the auto and buy a manual, but does anyone want to take a guess as to how much the actual conversion would cost?

A few shops that I spoke to wanted $3,000 to do the conversion on my 94 civic, Thats one of the reasons I sold it and bought my 7th gen. Most people said if you wanted a stick you should of bought a stick...
What i don't understand is there's people out there (no one specific) who want to convert an auto into a 5 speed. Correct me im wrong but when I was doing my research on the new civic. the auto is about $800 more than the 5 speed? so why do people want to spend a couple more thoudsand and get a 5 speed plus the $800 they paid for to get the auto. Or, I know more than one person, actually, who have told me they got an auto because the dealer was out of manuals.

hahha... should have just went with a manual... much better for control and speed but bad for traffic... its fun though...
usually when swapping an engine and the engine was auto, it is not hard to convert it to manual when the whole engine is being swapped... all you would need to do is cut a new hole for the clutch pedal. but from what i heard from my uncle who's a mechanic and has done swaps (like a gsr into a 94 civic) he said the chasis has space for the clutch to go be even if the car was an auto... all you need to do is cut the hole..

It wont cost any where near 3 grand to convert our cars. . I can go to a bone yard and get a engine and tranny for 800.00 bucks and install it my self or pay 900.00 to have it done.
Depends how much you wanna spend.... you can pretty much do anything if you got enough $$$
Reliability-wise, just trade it in and you won't lose hardly, if any money... 7thgens haven't seemed to have lost a single dollar in their resale value, yet...

damn I can't believe this question keeps coming up. First of all a manual is cheaper then an auto so when you bought and auto u spent more. Secondly, now u are upset that u didnt buy a manual so you want to spend 3k to make it one!! WTF. Just go trade in the auto and get a manual. U are just throwing $$ away if you want to switch trannies.

My brother had that done on his mustang, don't remember him paying 3k though. I say you trade it in and get a new civic cuz that way you can modify all over again, fun fun! and well this time you'll know how to do everything perfect without the trial and error.

My friend just got a tranny swap to his 94 accord. He went from auto to stick for like 2 grand. Only bad thing was that it wasn't new and had problems for the first couple of weeks. Now it is cool to see an automatic gauge sporting a 5 speed
I wana do a swap on mine.
I'm in a difficult situation tho. My parents baught the car, and they dont even drive it. so i'm payin for it now. Its basically my car. One thing i cant do it trade it in because they will kill me.
