Well, it looks to me like only the LX has a governor, set at 115mph, which is why LX owners are the only ones to compain about it (myself included).

WTF - Who really cares how fast these cars are, or aren't? I have an 01 EX and trust me, our cars aren't fast in stock form!!! The ECU limits the car to 106-127mph (LX/EX). Honda sets it here because the stock tires are rated to 130mph, that's it. I don't see why you, or anyone else, are asking this question.

Fast is a 911 Twin Turbo Porsche or a New Vette.....Fast isn't a stock EX/LX Civic.

I'm not flaming anyone, but people on here are a little delusional about what fast is!!!

Bulletboy, it's just a simple question, no need to get huffy about it! Chill dude...

And as for my mighty 97 DX? 115 trying to keep up with krepoort...punk! I'd push it harder, but my engine sounds like it wants to pop at anything past 110...

in my dx coupe, i hit 180kph on many occasions over my past road trip to vegas. if i were to magnify the speedometer.. MAYBE, just MAYBE i was doing a lil bit more. the limiter kept knocking me back.

Have you personally hit the speed limiter? I can attest that I've hit 130 in my EX and that it was drag limited, not ECM limited.

TwilightX

I am pretty calm most of the time. I just keep reading these threads about, "Dude, how fast have you gone?" and I just GETS OLD fast. Do people really drive around at 110-130mph, NO they don't. Our civics are NOT fast or quick....Peppy,maybe. I think they look good and they are easy to customize.

My 2 cents

WD40,

Yes, I have hit the limiter in my 01 EX and guess what? It was at 110mph. The pedal was to the floor and it went 110mph. That's it...no more go go in the honda. I tried to drop it down a gear to get it into the power band and yet....No faster.

That's not a limiter, man. When you hit the speed limiter, the ECM shuts fuel off to the engine and you feel a pronounced cut in acceleration. In fact, it's so violent a deceleration, the first time you hit the limiter and you're not used to it you think you f'ed something up in your car.

Pushing the pedal to the metal and it not going any faster is called "drag limited", which means the engine isn't powerful enough anymore to push the car through the air. That is much different than an electronic governor.

My bet is that if you found a straight downhill run, you would also get your car above 110. My 130mph run was thanks to a downhill stretch of open highway.

I did 126 mph once. It was still climbing, but I had to get off my exit. I have been wanting to try again, but cant find a clean stretch of highway and I dont want to go to jail! It takes quite awhile to get to that speed. I have a 2k1 civic ex coupe.

One thing to keep in mind, Ladies & Gentlemen...

Those of you that are running 205/40/17's (smaller than stock diameter for that really cool look)...

If your speedometer is reading 100 MPH you are REALLY doing 95.8 MPH
Did you hit 110 MPH? Oops, error, error, you are REALLY doing 105.8 MPH
And wow!... seeing 130 MPH right there on the dial? you're pretty fast but at a REAL speed of 124.6 MPH
(Your speedometer is reading 4.1351568788519721 percent too fast)

So, please check out the great "Tire Calculator" on this website and adjust your bragging accordingly.

Thanks & Happy Driving!

Damn, the Civic gets so skittish over 110mph...which is as fast as I've gone. It just doesn't feel safe.

I did take my Police Interceptor up to 140mph, but that required a chip to remove the speed limiter. Felt like I was doing 80 on the new H-rated Firestones.

115mph uphill on a 10 degree grade in my LX coupe /w MT. That's with stock wheels and tires. I have yet to try out my new wheels and tires. Oh yeah, this was all at the track. Yeah, that's it. It was legal.

127 in my EX just recently in San Diego when I was on vacation. Their freeways are hella deserted at night! I just have an exhaust... the car wouldn't go any faster than 127MPH, it just stuck there. The car was riding hella smooth on my 195/60/15. My friend was in the car and I think he said my RPMs were around 6kish which seems pretty fair. The longer you stay in higher RPMs the worse it is on the transmission. I love how the engine sounds at 6,800-7,000 RPMs in 2nd gear but especially 3rd gear.

Before the exhaust it took a long time to get to even 120 but I was at 127 in no time with it... hehe... this is what I get for getting the exhaust alone before intake and headers... the only trace of high end torque... oh well, I get my intake on my car in about 11 hours from now.

I can't find a road where I can go over 115 mph without known police spots. I get caught one more time my license is gone.

Yup, he's absolutely right. I have stock wheels and tires here, which makes for a scary ride at 130mph, but at least I know the speedo is accurate.
