Drag Racing Tonight...4 good kills!
Went to the Street Racing Drags after the Street Legal Drags tonight and had a good time. Ran into 2 other 7thgen Civics. One on the site and one not.
1st race I beat a 2001 Ford Focus ZX3 - ran a 17.169 to his 17.654. (Do you know how many car lenghts that is!) Had a 2.521 60'. That felt good. Had him by 0.13 on the R/T also. I hate Ford Focuses.
2nd race I beat a 97 Civic with similar mods: intake, cat-back etc. (oh, and a gutted interior) - ran a 17.250 to his 17.827. That felt good too. Had a 2.583 60' and got him off the line by 0.40 with a .535 R/T.
After the second race I packed all my gear in my trunk. Ice chest, gas can, chairs, etc. So now I'm slowing down a bit...
3rd race, I found a fellow 7thgen Civic Sedan with a Greddy cat-back and shiny wheels. I ran a 17.569 to his 20.634 (?). I think he would admit that he's...learning to drive well. Had a 2.654 60' and a .570 R/T. I wish he was a great driver, because this was my big chance to really see what my car could do compared to a stockish 7thgen Sedan. I told him about this website after the race.
4th race, I found a Mustang and beat him to the finish line, but he beat my ET. Him: 17.267. Me: 17.880. By now my car was tired and hot, as this was only 12 minutes after race 3. I beat him to the finish line though, but I had to cheat with a .462 redlight. Oh well. Not sure if he was stock or not, he would not let me check out his engine compartment.
Best time tonight was 17.129 @ 80.23 (new personal best) but I lost that race (barely) to a 93 Civic with some mods. 60' was 2.533, 330 - 7.150, 1/8 - 10.976 @ 64.31, 1000 - 14.318.

Do you have any engine mods?...I had 6 runs at Cecil Dragway here in MD and had a best of 16.2 which I hit twice,16.3(twice), a 16.4, and a 16.5. I actually think I can do better because a lot of my reaction times were terrible(1.2,1.3) I got one.8, and one .9, but I was also shifting at 6100 rpms. I reset my 5" tach to light up at 6900, so I think that will give me a little edge too. Just thought I'd share. I can go grab my slips if you're interested in the other times...1/8, 300,1000
Even tho I thought my times were decent...no kills. I raced a corvette Z06 twice, a Mustang GT twice, a 71 Nova, and Monte Carlo SS not sure the year..but it had a huge engine and BIG slicks

The mustang was a V6. And for all those 16 low second times and the imaginary 15s - you guys are at sea level! Makes a huge difference. I am running at 4225 ft. I will make it to CA and run at sea level this year though. I am dying to do that. Next weekend, I'll be at Las Vegas with some fellow racers from SLC to punk the locals in the Sport Compact Survival Point Series. LV is at roughly 2200 (I think). It will be hot, but we have been racing in 100+ weather here too.
Yeah, me too. I think after adjusting my tach light as far as my shift point and getting better response time off the line, I predict I'll hit 15.8 or 9 from 16.2. It's amazing how much technique goes into it. Family Man, did you try keeping foot on the gas while shifting and depressing the clutch...I didn't but I'm gonna go practice tonight(speed shifting I think some people call it)

Speed shifting will probably raise your time.. It'll cause the car to bounce with our weak clutches and actually throw off your engine for a second or so...not good.. Best way.. clutch slip off the line.. shift smooth and not insanely quick (clutch will cause a bounce effect)...and rememeber that double clutching does nothing for cars like ours with syncromeshed gears...
Cheers

Familyman.. I run slightly better than you in my DX . but I'm at 450ft. and it's every time I ran it was around 40-50 degrees farenheit...I ran once in 90+ Degree weather ona slippery track and ran a 21.89 couldn't keep the tires from slipping in 1st..
Cheers

i ran my 7th gen civic today at the battle of the imports. my best was a 16.3 but i had a horrible reaction time of .9. i had two more runs each with a better reaction time but my ets got worse everytime. my sisters boyfriend ran it and got a .6 reaction time but got the worst run. i think that slipping the clutch off the line is a good idea. i was asking a few people about how to improve my time and they said to dump the clutch around where vtech kicks in but that didnt seem to be working very well.

Yeah, thanks Mbow, I don't think I'll try that speed shifting crap, I'll stick with what I know and adjusting my shift light closer to the rev limiter...Must be my big wing hahaha...ok,maybe not
Here's a pic of me and Z06 facing off...this is the run I got a 16.2 in, alas, the Z06 got a 12.4

So Family Man, are you saying you don't believe my time???Not sure if that's what you meant, but that's an actual time, one of two 16.2's along with 2 16.3's and a 16.4, and a 16.5. Anyway, that's at Cecil County Dragway here in MD right off exit 100. It's in northern MD, just before you hit Delaware. I'm not sure what courtesy staging is...this was my first time racing on a track. At this track, you just line up in a lane and then they empty each lane out. You'll either race the guy in front of you or in back...This is also open...they have other times that it's specific to car class or whatever

When I go to the track.. I put my stock firestones back on. (now slicks) deflate them to 23 PSI. Their on old beaten to heck ultralight mags. I remove my subs. I crack my neck...and when three lights up.. I go..
Just a new clutch would give me another .2 seconds easy.. the oem clutch is too weak and skips into first and second..Our of first. I slip the clutch to till about 4000Rpms I shift at about 5500Rpms..I end up chirping into second..then I redline it each shift..I Don't double clutch or speed shift.. with the OEM Clutch. speed shifting will raise your time due to slippage and bounciness.
Cheers

AHHH,thanks FamilyMan...now I know. All I did was deflate to 27 psi, took out my spare...I don't have any audio...nor do I care to, set my Tachometer's shift lite point, throw in a chew of Kodiak...kick the tires and light the fires...remember, this was my first time. I'll be up there this Fri night, so I'll let you know how I do. I also keep my hood open between runs to let the engine cool down...that's about it i guess.
