OMG...another turbo question................................. ......j/k man. If there was a turbo or supercharger out for our cars, it would probably have to be a low-pressure affair, adding maybe 40-60 HP...even then u would need additional mods and nitrous to make any real power.

Silver: do you think one for our cars could reliably run more that 7 to 9 lbs of boost?

i talked to a couple of guys over here in 757 VA that own
performance shops, and they said the max psi without doing internal mods
would be 7-8 psi, and run mid 13 sec in the 1/4 mile, these are ppl
that have been werking on turbos for like 10-15 years

Yes, only if you lower the compression to a more turbo-friendly 8-8.5:1, upgrade the fuel injectors, ECU mapping, and upgrade the rods, gaskets, and head studs...sadly, there are no rods or piston upgrades that I know of.

I think with the current state of technology and our engine's bias towards economy and cleanliness, 9-10PSI would just about be the limit--w/o having to pour serious amounts of $$$ into it.

What do you think is possible without a lot of internal mods, while running a 40 shot? Do you think 7 lbs would be reliable for drag racing? What do you think an ET would be?

Aaaah jeez...you might be pushing it with a 40-shot and a 7-psi turbo...you gotta remember that we don't have a knock sensor so it would be tricky to manage that...I suppose if you got a piggy-back fuel computer it might be possible. I would go with a lower psi first--say, 5psi--but if you can run 7 psi and a 40-shot reliably then you're probably looking at mid to low 12's, assuming good traction and no driveline gremlins...you might need to upgrade the clutch to handle the boost reliably though.

Edit: I don't yet have any hard data on our engine's specs but it seems that the stock fuel injectors' duty cycle might be too stingy to run a turbo at 7psi...then there's the issue of the lack of a return fuel line...

you guys are funny...
instead of sittin here askin the same questions, why dont u start researching where to find a shop to build u a turbo, THEN, start worrying about how much boost to run. then on top of it, the last thing u should be worried about is ur ET's. guaranteed u wont get over 50hp with a turbo on our cars at less than 10 lbs of boost. and yes, you will need to do many upgrades to our fuel system, as well as cooling down our car with a bigger radiator. u might want to find out from FLUIDYNE when they will be releasing an aftermarket radiator for our cars. or start lookin into to using a aftermarket radiator from a different application and custom mounting it. no matter wut u do or find, its gonna be alot of custom work, meaning A LOT of money and A LOT of time! prepare yourselfs, because it may not be worth it for just 40 hp.

BLUENVY01: I have been researching boththe turbo and supercharger issues lately but it seems there are not that many shops--at least here in Dallas--who will even work on a turbo for our cars yet. Besides, it never hurts to brainstorm a little...I need all the brainstorming ideas I can get. I have never kept a car totally stock and this one won't be an exception, it'll just take more time, money, and research than I thought it would.

i've heard the same thing re: maximum boost on stock parts. pretty much everyone in the business says 8 PSI is the limit, unless you want to spend big $$$ on manifolds, computers, piping, and other engine internals...

but even 8 PSI on our engines would put you at at least 160, possibly even up to 180 HP. i dunno about you, but that's enough power for me
