Swap....
I don't know if this part tof the topic has been posted before but i was thinking.............
Right now prices for a swap are high and Htown is the only one trying it, but what if you don't try to swap a K20 engine, what if (i dont' know just dreaming) you swap another manufacturer engine, I know all the honda purists and/or lover are not going to like this but there are other engine out there.............
Maybe some from the Celica GTS, or the Sentra SE-R, maybe even the one from the Hyunday tiburon, i don't know but i would be nice to have a hybrid that would have the looks of the civic, and maybe if the other engines could fit better than the K20, the power of other sport compacts..........
What do you think????.............

I would be game if you could do it. (you start talking about engines by thier names and you lose me)
Face it - almost any engine would be better for our cars.
I would have to wait till the warranty was over though.

it's hard enough to swap within brands. it really wouldn't be worth the money to slap a Nissan motor in our cars
besides, the best motors that even have a chance of fitting of our engine bays would be B-series or the K-series

nothing would line with another companies engine,
you have to cut and re weld the motor mounts,
and re wire everything differently,
but its better to stick other honda engines instead
of swapping a nissan or toyota engine.

Just see what they are doing to Htown's civic, they are rewelding the mounts and modifying the whole subframe so i don't think it would be that different, maybe the wiring part woud be a pain but you would a cool hybrid.............
yah, its hard enough tryin to fit a big honda engine in our cars, let alone a big engine from a different manufacturer. ****...thats just nutz. i wish u g'luck with that, but i have MANY DOUBTS about how successful that project could ever be. as for the K-series engine, i have my hopes high right now. if i can salvage a TYPE S engine, tranny, ecu, etc... i have a hook-up on a FREE install, so its just a matter of finding the right parts, and then the funds to back such purchases... haha. so if anyone has the 411 on a rolled type s, please let me know.
I don't believe you could do a swap for an older or different manufacturer engine, due to at least two reasons:
1. It is ILLEGAL to replace your car's engine with that of an older model.
2. Our cars are ULEV-certified by the EPA. This means that the swap would have to keep all emissions controls in place and adapt them to the new engine in order to preserve the ULEV rating.
If you really like your Civic, keep it as your daily driver and get an older Civic or Prelude and swap its motor.

I dont think you could do it very easily, and if you did, it would no doubt cost you more money to do that then to do something like Htown is.
It would be too much custom fabrication to have an engine from a different manufactuer put in and if you could get it to fit, all the linkage would be one hell of a mess no doubt.
This is not to say it cant be dont, but more or less Why?

You're right on #1, but any swapped engine does not have to preserve the ULEV status. As far as I know, this rule only applies to bolt-on parts such as intakes and exhausts to obtain CARB certification. As long as you are swapping in a same-year or newer engine into your chassis, you are ok.
