Header Issue!!!!!!! Please read and help
Alright we all know that the LX has a built in cat into the stick exhaust manifold. So instead of buying a header and having to deal with a down pipe and modifying teh gasket and all that other stuff that people had to do with the Kamikazi here is my thought to the problem...Please tell me what you think
I am going to go out on a limb here and say usually a cat has like a ceramic honey comb looking peice that filters that crap, what if we were to take the stock one off and crush up the comb till it all falls out then it would be straight through. No modifying of anything then down the road you can put a high flow cat right before the stock sway bar in that straight portion of pipe. I think it really might work. Tell me what you think people....
Thanks

The Cat is built intot the exhaust manifold, so when you remove that then you remove the cat. I live in Ohio. But what I am saying is to crush or get rid of that cat "material" so it goes straigh through, THEN you don't have to worry about the down pipe and you can have a cat installed after the stock flange where that straigh section is. Does everyone understand????

that honey comb stuff doesnt "filter" anything. it heats up and burns up a LARGE part of the emissions spewing from your engine. hollowing it out will not only make your car sound like crap, but the gains in any power will be hardly noticable, especially on a lightly moded civic lx. if you must, get a cat-co or better yet, random technology free flow cat. These will not only pass smog in all 50 states, your car wont sound like its got explosive dihreah. That, plus its been dyno testet to make MORE power then a test pipe on NA engines. Why? because they (and especially honda 4 cyls) need a specific ammount of backpressure to make low end torque.

By creating a thread your asking for everybody's input.......Whats the point of a forum then.......And there's no need to cuss and get your panties in a bunch......I just thought it was funny when you expected a few hp gains from hollowing it out but then want to add restrictor by putting in another cat.......You'd be back to square one...
This thread is a waste of time. Like Joe said you really should get a cat that was designed for its purpose like a high flow cat. A catalytic converter is exactly what its name says. It converts catalysts into nonharmful gasses...if you mash up the insides, not only will you be destroying the cat and defeating its purpose, you're gonna sound like crap and fail emissions. If you plan on being ghetto you might as well just take your catalytic converter off. Gains on any of this however, will be less than noticeable.
