Took a nice slide through the grass today

Well, my worthless tires proved their worthlessness today. So I'm getting off of I-20 east onto Great Southwest, in Arlington, TX, where the exit is downhill with grass between the highway and the ramp.

So, it's raining, so I'm being carful becaue I know my tires are crap. I'm going about 30, just getting on the ramp, when I hit a slick spot. I lose any amount of traction I had, panic, and slam on the brakes. Well, since I've got an LX, the brakes lock up on me. So now I have no traction, and my wheels aren't spinning, wonderful right?

Well, I hit the curb of the grass going about 25-30 still, do a 360 in the grass, and come to a stop about 100 feet into it. My car was so close to flipping.... the grass is down a hill and it was wet. After I hit the grass, I just went hard on the brakes and turned the wheel in the direction of the spin, I don't remember if that's the right way to do it or not, you don't have a lot of time to think, and just hold on to the steering wheel with my head down ready for the damn thing to flip. Thank God it never did.

Amazingly, there appears to be no damage at all to the car, just a lot of grass in the wheels and wheel wells. Scared the hell out of me, but besides that I'm ok.

That sucks, but I know how it is, I blame my stock tires for the fact that I rolled my car this past winter. Trust me I learned my leason for that, now tires for the winter, and I am still looking at new tires to fit my stock 15" alloys for the summer, hey Jon will those Nitto NT555's fit the stock EX rims?

you lost control skidding at 30 mph?! only advice i can give you is go out and practice your skid driving so when it happens you're prepared. how about getting some goodyear aquatred 3's that'll give you better traction for sure. yes i have a lx too so no abs, but im an accomplished skidder

Yes you can get Ny 555's to fit on stock rims. There are 2 different kinds of NT 555's. Make sure you get the "Road" ones not the "Track" tires. i have a set of Nt555's drag's on stock 95 ex wheels. They work so well it's sick. but in the rain......ummm you know no what i mean.

I didn't have enough time to react to it, that's why I went into the grass. The space from where I lost traction to when I got into the grass was all of 10 feet, if that much. And once I was in the grass I just got ready to hit something or flip, so I wasn't too concerned with gaining control after that Luckily the grass was wet so I'm sure that helped slow me down.

the way i was taught to get out of wheel lockup was to turn the steering wheel all the way of the opposite direction you are spinning. get off the brakes, give a little gas. turning the wheel the same direction as you spinning = more spinning.

although average in the dry as far as high performance tires go, the Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 has SUPERIOR wet traction, even to much more expensive tires. Plus they are cheap price wise, and have a kick *** wear rating.

Yeah, I've taken a couple of driving classes before that teaches that stuff, and it's easy to do it when your on a skid pad expecting it to happen. But when it happens on an off ramp that you get off on everyday totally out of the blue, it's hard to think of all of that stuff.

We were also taught the "turn the opposite way" in police academy during the emergency vehicle driving course. I've never really had to use it though.

Play video games to learn how to control skids. Seriously, to a certain degree it helps. Find a game with decent physics, like Driver or any racing game from Papyrus. You'll at least learn the basics of spin control (steering, brakes, throttle etc.)

Glad to hear everything turned out ok.
