Strange Idea(?) that paid off
Okay, this is my first post so bear with me on this.
My best friend and I are both Civic enthusists, he owns an '88 and I had a '92 before going to a Legend and finally to my my 2k1. Well, he said that his father had put on dual glasspacks on his car to make it sound a lot different. Well I was skeptical so I went and heard his father's car. It sounded great. I wanted this done to my car. Well I did it and it now sounds incredible. I didn't really do it for any purpose but for my own enjoyment. It really doesn't sound like a megaphone muffler at all. This really does just make the engine sound different, a lot lower. Unlike a megaphone, it is actually a lot deeper instead of just louder.
Well as soon as I got my car back after having the new mufflers put on my friend and I were driving around town both talking about more things that I could do to my car. My car still looks pretty much stock and I am eager to change this but with a lack of money, the changes are slow to come. Well I pulled up next to this lowered Chevy S-10. It was done all out with ground effects and low profile racing wheels. We both pointed and snickered (we find racing trucks to be a bit comical, even though some, like the Lightning, can stand their own). The guy driving the S-10 sees us and starts reving his engine at me. I smiled and nodded but did not rev in return. As soon as the light turned green I popped my clutch and peeled away from the light. Almost as soon as my engine started moving and my engine got reved, he switched to second and breaked. My friend and I looked at each other baffled. The guy had just backed out before we even made it to the other side of the intersection. We didn't really know what to make of it. Our only thought was that he heard the pitch and didn't know what I had done to the engine.
We thought that maybe this was just some sort of strange coincidence until later that evening we spied an Eagle Talon with a body kit racing people at almost every light. He would pull up and rev his engine and get people to race him. I worked my way through traffic until I met him at a light. He had gauges all down his side posts and the car was really well done out. He started reving at me, so I reved my engine back. All of a sudden he got this puzzled look on his face and then put his car in second gear. When the light turned green he waited for me to move ahead before he started out. He then wouldn't pull up next to me in traffic but instead kept a big gap between us. He did this until the next light when he pulled in behind me and then followed me for about a mile before finally turning off. My friend and I stared at each other in disbelief. It seemed that by adding the dual glasspacks it really does intimidate people.
Sorry if this got a little long winded but I just wanted to pass this on. I find it quite funny and I would recomend it to anyone that wants to do anything to their exaust. It really is different than anything I had ever heard of or seen before at the import meetings. I find the sound of it is just wonderful.

Dual glasspacks are twin cherry bomb mufflers. I got one put in right at the end of the tail pipe and the other right after the pipe comes out of the cadilittic converter (pardon my spelling). It is a custom job. My friend's father found a place in Tallahassee (again I can't spell) that will do it for $85 bucks if you supply the parts. The parts being the two mufflers. They even gave me a chrome tip for free. Grand total it cost $110.

any way you can record it and post a link to the file so we can hear it? theres a master thread with all the exhaust sounds (until theres a media section to the site).
also, i thought glasspacks were just straight-through mufflers packed with fiberglass or some sound dampening material (thats where the name comes from at least). what exactly is a cherry bomb muffler? any pictures? or an example of brand and such??
sounds awesome tho...im just asking a lot of Qs cause im looking for an exhaust and curious whats out there and what can be done.

I think the brand is Cherry Bomb. I am not entirely sure exactally how they work. They look just like a straight pipe muffler though. This was my friend's father's idea and I told him I wanted the same thing done and he bought the parts for me and had the work done. I just paid for it. I can get some pictures up in the morning. Or if you want to email me about it you can email me at lstmrbls@aol.com. I have a digi cam that will do .mpg's so I will work on getting a video of it so you can see and hear it at the same time. Plus that is easier to post.

Heh, an ex-girlfriend of mine lives in Citra and I'm in Tallahassee...What place up here does this? If I went to them would they tell me all the information? I got Midas to do my custom piping from the cat-back (2.25", no resonator, welded to a Magnaflow muffler) I wonder if this place could do whatever you got done with what I have already? Lemme know. And let's hear a sound clip.

Those Cherry Bomb mufflers are just small red mufflers they are kind of a universal thing. Hell I used to have one of those on my old tractor, made it sound cool too.
Here's a pic I found .......
As well as the link to some info on them...... Click Here
Hell they even have a Cherry Bomb Turbo, he he........

forget everything you ever thought about rice... his car was THEE riciest thing ever created.
Imagine a Hyndai elantra WAGON with an alumnium wing, 15" rims, 'custom' painted interior (red...we did it for fun), stupid azz stickers everywhere... etc etc.. oh ya.. AND A CHERRY BOMB EXAUST...of course it was auto-transmission.. oh man.. makes me laugh just thinking about that old car..... anywayz moral of the story is... cherry bomb = rice and makes your performance go DOWN DOOOWWWNNN... its WORSE THAN STOCK.. okay

Eh, now that I'm hearing what all of you are saying, I think I'll just stick with my setup now. Not that I was really planning on doing this, it just sounded a bit interesting.

I now have a mpg of it but the site tell me that it is too big and won't let me post it. It does sound a bit rice but hey, I like the sound of it. It also does not decrease my performance. It either stayed the same or gives me a very little bit at the top end, very little bit. It is two straight pipes after all. Also, I think that mine my sound slightly different than the other Cherry Bombs people have had because I put two on. I had never heard of this, nor had anyone else that I talked to. Maybe I am wrong but still. *I* like the sound and isn't that the important thing. Anyway. If you are interested in hearing it, email me at lstmrbls@aol.com and I can send you the mpg. It is about 600 kb.
ooo...dober u definitely doo.....and i'm not quite sure y anyone wouldn't agree...
and as for you leroybrown... it wouldn't matter if our car's had 100hp or 400 hp....it's just common sense...y would you do something to your car if you knew it would take away performance??? seriously.....and about our car's not being rockets or wutever...i know they're not the fasting thing in world, but they're def. not the slowest......power add-on's are a lot harder for us with our setup as the previous years....but even stock 7gen vs. stock 6gen we would win....and we win against a lot of things...soo...i guess this is all that i have to say about that.....i dont' feel like typing anymore...

EDIT: Here is the clip...enjoy...

Damn, that actually sounds sweeeet. But what does it do for performance?
A friend of mine had those on his 5.0 about 10 years ago. I had Dynomax on my 5.0. Is dynomax still around?

Unless they've changed them... Cherry Bombs didn't last well, the glass would blow out after a while & they'd get really loud (like straight pipes with no muffler). But, they used to be a cheap way to get your v6 Mustang or Nova (back when they were American cars) to sound cool.
