Totalled civic (pretty long)
i know ppl are gonna be flamin for what happened and yea it was stupid, but i learned my lesson.........so here goes.......
last week i was going to my friends house from my summer class. and just before i get onto an highway (Rt. 21/Newark) i see this new black civic ex, no plates yet, a couple cars infront of me. so we get onto the highway, and i catch up to the black vic. i pull up next to him and he looks over and speeds off. i follow, thinking i'll follow him till the part of the highway where it becomes 2 lanes and straight for a lil more than a 1/4 mile, then i'll race him. so he starts speeding and i'm following, this road is known for racing. so without noticing we reach speeds of ~90-100. and i keep following him close. this highway is sorta curvy for a while before it straightens out, and i'm slowing down a tthe curves whiles he keeps speeding through them and swaying alot. so then right before the straight away, there is this sharp curve. so we go into the curve at about 90-95 and its curving right. so he seems to over steer and his car starts swerving into the right lane, so i guess instinctively turns the wheel to the left (bad mistake) and then his back loses control and his car takes a sharp turn left, across infront of my car, straight into the divider at about 90. i slammed my brakes and was preparing to hit his car, since it hit the divider and i was in the left lane. but as soon as it hit the divider it flipped into the air, guessing cuz it hit at an angle. so his car flipped over the front on my car while i have my brakes slammed, and the car lands in the right lane and rolls into the wall on the side of the highway and lands on its wheels (or what was left of them). so my car is skidding right now and i pull over on the shoulder about 50 ft from where he landed, and i run out of my car towards his car to help him. by the time i get to his car, he opens the door and stumbles out, a lil dazed and arm is all bloody. and i sit him down and try and make sure hes ok. but all he can do is look at his car and kept saying oh **** its only 5 days old. the car was totally wreaked, smashed in from every side, windows all broken, wheels bent out. i talked to him, it was leased. he only had a burn on his arm from the airbag and a few cuts on his arm from the glass, and thas it. i just felt soo bad for him, cuz if it was my car, i'd be freaken mad as hell. so anyway, i found that our cars pretty damn safe and i learned my lesson, highway is very very dangerous, racing should be saved for track. sorry for the length, just thought i'd share that.

yea right after that, when i got in my car, and put my trembling hands on the wheel and drove at 30mph on the highway all the way home. its scary as hell to prepare to hit a car at like 80mph and then watching it flip over you. sorta felt a lil eased that i didn't hit his car, but its crazy to see a car flipping over yours
Don't know anyone who's died in our cars. I feel pretty safe.
Racing on stock tires...
I would never ever dare go over 85MPH on the freeway/highway on a sharp turn because THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT WILL HAPPEN. Your car will fishtail until the tires lose traction and after that, prepare to call 911... not for you, but your car. Those tires just can't do it... you can just look at them and tell that they can't take turns. They are 185s, the tread design is poor as well as the tire's quality.
But I hate it when people go too fast on the freeway. My friend in his Supra did the same thing and he ended up going across like 3 lanes on a hard turn at like 95MPH racing this Integ. As he was going over the lanes, I was hoping his car wouldn't spin out from the tires losing traction. At LEAST get better tires (they aren't worth sh't). My car was so much better to drive overall when I got better tires (Yokohama AVIDs) but either way, like you said... keep it on the track. I'm glad no one else got hurt and that you both are alive and well.
5 day old Civic... very sad. Sounds like it wasn't even broken in yet. This is the second story I've heard someone's brand new Civic was wrecked severly or totalled... and the other one happened to be a black coupe, too. I don't remember who posted it but the owner of the car was in total shock.

Holy Crap man, thats just nuts, and a new car too, I feel bad for the SOB. But thankfully you and him are ok, as well as your car. I hope this helps to let people know that racing is for the track.

yea i learned my lesson, and the other kid definately learned his, tracks strickly.
yea the stock tires and springs on our cars aren't that great. cuz the car sits so high in the rear its alot easier to lose control in a turn.
both our cars were autos (which i'm bored of, which is why i'm planning on getting the rsx-s)

I guess this is what it takes for someone to know that street racing is bad and to keep it on the tracks
I was on my way to work one morning on the I-15 here in SoCal and I saw a 300Z going about 90mph cutting in and out of traffic. He lost control and slid into the shoulder. There was a bridge over another street and he hit the end of the bridge's saftey wall. His car flipped into the air and landed upside down in the middle lane. His engine flew completely out of the car and was struck by some poor lady in a Caddy. The passenger was ejected head first into the wall and survived (at the scene anyway, might have died later). The driver was trapped in the car and killed instantly. Quite a sobering thing to witness.
