Another One Bites The Dust (Wrecked my Civic.)

Well, I'm not sure what i want more.. my car to be totalled, or to get it fixed and have a car that was totally tore up.. and never know what's going to go wrong. Basically, the front end of the car was crushed. It's dropped on sportlines, with 2000 SI wheels (painted black with "h" and lip left silver) on some low profile pirelli's, Hp racing 4-1 header/w cat, AEM pullies, AEM CAI, magnaflow midpipe with resonator removed and green anodized apex'i N1 muffler. All these things will be for sale if i find out my car is totalled. So, keep in touch. I basically rear ended the guy, because he decided to slam on his brakes as i was changing lanes. I know it's my fault either way.. but because my car was so low it smashed through the grill, shattered both lights, and crushed the whole front end. Most of the motor seems to be in tact, but my radiator was sitting horizontally on top of the motor. The wheels are in perfect shape, but not for sale, no windows are cracked... no airbags deployed. So if you guys would like to give your feed back on if you think it's totalled, i'd appreciate it. Who knows, maybe it'll get fixed. THIS SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

sorry to say but the way it sounds theres not going to be frame damage since it took out your front body panels and pulled your radiator out of place. no frame damage on a car that has no damage done to the engine usually means to insurance that they will fix it. unless you got a hookup with the insurance rep and get them to help ya out, your gonna be gettin back a used and abused civic in about 2 months...

Well, i'm not sure about the frame damage either.. i can't open either door on either side all the way. The fenders are like overlapping the doors.

Hey if it is, I'm not switching to RSX or subaru like many have. I'm a Honda lover. I'll probably get a 6th gen si.. wishfull thinking anyway. If it's not totalled i'll be happy if they fix it.. and fix it right.

Check w/ your ins. company on if they let you bring it to the dealer to get fixed. My ins. will allow me to do that regardless of what it costs, they will just get an estimate and approve it. At least at a dealer you have qualified techs and the right OEM parts and paint to do the job right. Taking it to a body shop is probably a bad idea. A new car they haven't worked on before, hard to find parts, etc.

I dont know man, it sounds like it could go either way right now. I guess the rule of thumb for this stuff is if the damage is going to cost 75%+ of the cars MSRP. Thats what they told me when I rolled mine. But in the end they put it all back together and I am back on the road and modding again and damm happy to be.
Right now I have a 2001 Blazer while they are sending my rims away to be refinished. I cant wait for my car to be done.
Good Luck man, keep us updated.

For your next car... get better brakes. I had an accident recently... it could've been avoided if I had stronger brakes. Or it would've been a lot less worse damage.

i'm in Houston, Tx. Yeah.. the hood came close to hitting the windshield.. but the way it bent.. it just crinkled before it could hit it. looks like there might be some engine damage.. can't hardly see under there.

i'd have to see the frame but it doesn't sound totaled to me
same thing happen to me back in january. both headlights. front bumper, hood and radiator.
this all happen under 30 mph/ 2nd gear. A truck cut off someone, they slammed on brakes and it was a chain reaction after that. i was the 8th and last car in the pile up. it was about $3400 in damage but that was getting everything replaced with stock equipment. I assume aftermarket stuff would be a lot cheaper.

Keep us updated thou. if it's totaled. I'm sure some of us wouldn't mind helping you get rid of that stuff

Dude Boost same thing happened to me on Monday, I was on my way to Florida (went on anyways, in my dad's car..after we dropped mine off at the dealer). I was on 59 in SugarLand going north to the Beltway durring rush hour traffic...didn't stop in time...rear ended a mini van going about 10-15 mph...air bags didnt go out, always wear your sealtbelts! Mine kept me from going right into the steering wheel, and kept my brother from hitting the dash. No damage to the mini van, except for part of my lisence plate in her muffler. There's a large hole in the middle of my bumper, and in my plate (it got stuck on her muffler), and the damage to ur hood sounds just like mine. It was like raised in inch or so and came close to the windshield. Radioator was bent all the way back, grill was gone, headlights gone. No frame or engine damage, just $3600 worth of body damage. Took it to the Honda dealer in Rosenburg...where we got the car. Sucks....

yeah, i just hope everything works out. sorry to hear about all of y'alls car wrecks too. Yes i'll still be hooking people up if my car is totalled. I doubt it is though after reading most of the replies. i just hope my aftermarket stuff is okay! i'll try and take a better look at everything this afternoon and let you guys know what i see. Our cars are designed to crumble. God have mercy on your soul if you hit someone going over 60. I was going about 45 and my front end crumbled. Don't know how good that is... My wifes integra hit a wall going 65 and it looked about the same. Hers was totalled.. of course her windshield broke and airbags went off.. etc. Thanks for all the responses.

damn!! sorry about that...same thing happened to my brother's 97 civic last year, some pick up truck hit a bus and jump to his lane and he didn't had a choice but to hit him...the whole right front was crushed, headlights, radiator, CAI, battery, fuses all the electrical went down, he was also so dropped to the ground, like 3", his hood was all cracked like a soda can, the frame was all bent too, the insurance gave it as totalled, they gave him a check for like $7,000, then he sold the car to some chinese dude for $5,000, said he could fix it, he did, but put a 99 civic front, looks very weird...and he sold most of his aftermarket cars...got like $15,000 total

ask him to give me his nitrous, but he sold it with the car to that chinese dude who kept insisting on getting the nitrous
good luck with your car, hope everything turns out like you wish!

believe me, so do i.. I'm at the point where it would be nice to start out with a better car ( something with more potential ) then again i've put a lot of money and work into this one. A lot of these guys on the forum don't appreciate their car cuz it doesn't have the potential the older ones did.. or you have to spend more money to even keep up with competition... but once you start to get your car where you want it you realize like i do having a 7thgen that's all tricked out, sounds bad a$$... and can get up and go a little bit draws attention.. it's different. that's the one cool thing. anyway. talk to y'all later. Thanks for the input again.

Not gunna say that isn;t true, but my car, well previous car was wrecked in a similar way excapt the guy changing lanes was the one who had to slam his brakes...anyway. If it highly unlikely that Boost hit the guy perfectlysquare. So pressure was off the to side and it could bend the frame that way.,,,all depends on the speed. chances are the bar the radiator mounts to was torn apart and that is considered frame damage and is terribly expensive to replace. But who knows...the damage has to cost more then the car's worth I think is how it goes.
