another question for Quickie
I guess the reason would vary by department. A police department can purchase any type of car they want, but the Ford Police Interceptor (what I use, and I like it very much) and the Chevy Impala (slow acceleration, kind of cramped) seems to be the norm right now.
Here I see cops rideing around in all types of vehicles:
Impala's, Camaro's, Jeep's, Suburban's, Civic's, Integra's, Corvette's, Van's, Bike's, Horses, Boots, Boats, Ive even seen a cop radaring in a 74 studebaker

Our patrol division has only marked, unmarked and slicktop Crown Vic Police Interceptors. The detective division also uses Crown Vics. I believe the Bureau of Special Operations in my department has some interesting and unusual cars, but I am not sure what exact vehicles they have.
