Type R vs. Accord EX-L V6, which takes up more gasoline?
Type R vs. Accord EX-L V6, which takes up more gasoline?
TYPE R is 315 HP, 4 cylinder turbo, whereas EX-L V6 is constantly running at 6 cylinder at 278HP.
https://www.carwow.co.uk/guides/glos...gers-explained
according to the above link, it says
[QUOTEif you’re gentle with the accelerator the turbo will either not activate, or activate gently, making it easier to achieve good economy than you would find it in a large-capacity engine that was always drawing lots of fuel.][/QUOTE]
so it seems that TYpe R should save some gasoline compares to a ongoing v6 engine if I only goes at 50km/hr. But once you accelerates, then it sucks up a lot of gasoline. Now on my end, I drive 10km/hr LOWER than the speed limit in the winter, but accelerates quite a lot higher than speed limit in the summer or fall w/ no snow fall.
what is you people takes on this?

A quick google search tells me they're about the same in the city and that the Accord is better on the highway, which makes sense to me.
Most of the later V6 accords (except the manuals) had cylinder deactivation which lent very well to fuel economy. The Civic is a fairly high-strung, low-displacement engine that doesn't operate super efficiently in any range, and is tuned more for power than efficiency The Accord will be set up much more nicely for that since it's not only understressed as a 6-cylinder, but also will deactivate two cylinders to run on 4 when driving on the highway.

Re: Type R vs. Accord EX-L V6, which takes up more gasoline?
I didn't even know they have such technology. So how does the car determine when to turn off those 2 cylinder and when to turn them on?
1 other question: you said "except manual", suppose I want to buy a manual transmission, what then? they won't automatically shut off 2 cylinder to save my gas? how does manual transmission not allow the car to shut down 2 cylinder?

The manuals just don't have cylinder deactivation implemented.

okay, now I understand . Thank you. I am buying a manual transmission, as I am used to shifting gear, this will be my 4th car on manual transmission. So I'll stick w/ the higher gas price then
