Question for Qucikslvr and everyone else...

I am about to put racing seats in my car and five point harnesses...my question is...Are the harnesses considered a seat belt or can I still get a ticket for not using the seat belt? Thanks

I think it depends on the state. I've heard that certain states have made 5 point harnesses illegal, but you never know.

Im pretty sure they're legal.. after all they're more safe than a regular 3 point seat belt. They are also commonly used by people with heart problems because it puts less strain on the chest in an accident... so yea they're most likely legal

I'd have to check my vehicle and traffic law book for the definition of "seat belt." I've seen people with what you describe and I never stopped them...I'll check into it.

Keep the hookups for your 3-point belts if at all possible, because take it from someone who had 4-point harnesses, once the novelty wears off the harnesses are a pain in the a$$.
