I am a fresh graduate and need a car. I don't want to repair cars always. so the reliability is my main concern. Looked for good price online(edmunds.com, autopriceshare.com, truecar.com...) for several weeks. Finally, I found some deals shared by others and autopriceshare dealers offer me the same price.
Here are my two quotas:
1. 2015 civic LX Automatic Price 17714 (base model on more packages)
1. 2015 corolla LE Price 16579 (base model + one free oil change)
Are these good deals? Which model is more reliable? I am not familiar with cars and any advices will be very helpful!

First of all, you DO know you're on a forum dedicated to the Honda Civic, right? Things could be kinda biased. Since they're both new models, it's difficult to determine their reliability at the moment. I would recommend doing your own research (come on, you're a grad, right?) and test driving both before coming to a conclusion.

Both are reliable cars from 2 of the top manufactures in reliability. Drive them both see which you like best. You should be able to get more free oil changes then 1.
I am bias to the Civic, how about that

The Corolla has a CVT transmission, I'm always wary of early applications in production. I'd look for a gently used 2012 Civic or Corolla in the $11.5k range. I don't need the first 50k or the depriciation that comes with it.

I would strongly recommend a certified pre-owned vehicle (CPO). Virtually all of them come with the balance of the manufacturer's warranty. And of course, the dealer will be happy to sell you an extended warranty so you won't have to worry about fixing anything for quite a while. Most CPOs are off-lease, well maintained and have fewer than 10k miles per year of ownership. So a 2-3 year old CPO will still have >90% of its lifetime mileage remaining, but you'll pay FAR LESS than 90% of the MSRP, usually only 60-70%. With 2-3 years of ownership records, you'll be able to research and gain a sense of the vehicle's reliability.
Strictly comparing Civic and Corolla, I'd rank them 1 and 1a, respectively. I've owned both and rarely had problems with either. Both had >200k when sold. Neither is quite as reliable as my current Accord, but the 4-cyl, 5-spd Accord is really exceptional for reliability.
Good luck!

I say its all personal preference. Both reliable but i personally like the corolla body style better. I dont like the 9th gens at all but thats my opinion. I prefer the 8th gen over a 9th gen.

I say go for the new Civic. I've never owned a toyota, but I just bought a 2015 civic LX last week and I love it. I paid $16k for mine, but it was just about bone stock and a 5 speed. Yes, you will lose a lot of trade in value when you buy new, but you'll have the car for so long.

Very true! I guess one of the key factors depends on how much you drive. I drive about 15k-20k miles a year. I live about 18 miles from work, but im always driving up to the mountain in the winter and road trips in the summer. This is my first new car. My previous cars were all used and bought around 50k miles so by the time i had it paid off it was starting to nickel and dime me (previous cars were grand am and a focus). If you don't drive a lot then a used car or leasing would definitely work.
