another 1 bites the dust
whats the hp on a '94 maybe '95 mazda mx-3? why am i asking? i smoked one badly today, and im just wondering what was i going against. the dude driving it kept on revving at me, driving all crazy and ****, speeding up and slowing down. we couldn't come up on a light, but on one of em he was first and i was sitting right behind him. he had an exhaust and it was a manual for sure - TONS of stickers on the little POS. he took off and when i hit redline in 2nd i was already in the other lane with my nose sitting right about where his front wheel starts. around 5,500 rpms in 3rd i was about 1.5 car lenght in front of the dude and figured its not worth it anymore. all them stickers and its still slow as all hell.
I want to know the stats to, there is one at my college that I want to race, about same year and it has apexi catback and I guess some other things , i wouldnt mine racing him , but I would like the stats on them to. Congrats on the win, what all do u have on ur car

lol, he had some APC ones (figures), plus some weird looking stripes going from his front bumper to the back top part of the window on the side of his car, bunch more - i didn't even bother reading. by the way, what do you guys/girls think about a 2k1 ex vs. a 2k1 escort ZX2 w/exhaust?

As a past owner of a '94 Mazda MX-3 Precedia GS V6...........
The horsepower is around 130ish........... weak you say, from a V6... but it is a 1.8L. They are easy to beat, as I actually beat one in my automatic LX--however, that was a fluke. When I had the car, I raced tons of EX Civics, and never lost. Even modded ones.
But most of you will spank this car when you race it, because it is *EXTREMELY* difficult to drive. The gearing is ridiciously short and the RPM in the 1st gear goes up ultra fast. It redlines at a blink of an eye, and you better be ready to shift, other wise you blow your engine (no rev limiter). So most people get scared and shift too early.....
Having said that, it is a very fast car on the highway. In fact, my cousin who drives a GSR-powered Civic, said "the 3rd gear feels like 2nd on my car!"... this car will absolutely destroy 127HP Civics on the highway. My best friend at the time had a Civic Si (US-Spec EX), with intake, exhaust, ECU upgrade........ and I *STILL* beat him on the highway.
In the city? It was a very very close call. If we raced 10 times, he would win about 6 of them, simply because of the inconsistancy of the MX-3, in regards to the difficulty to drive.
Handling-wise, it was great, especially for its time. It difinitely has more road grip than the 7th Gen Civics--0.83g on the skidpad, bone stock! 'Nuff said. The double-wish bone independent suspension system does an excellent job at hanlding mid-corner bumps. The biggest downfall of this car is the chassis. It is very soft, and under heavy cornering, you can feel the chassis bend. 7th Gen Civics feel about 200% stiff in comparison.
All in all, I wouldn't call this car a piece of $hit. It's actually a nice ride. Great design for its time, when everyone was still making boxes on wheels (this car was released in '91, as a '92 model). It was expensive to maintane, as typically a Mazda, but it was an enjoyable car to drive. Best memories are blasting onto a highway thru a ramp, doing trip digits.
