Question about speeding ticket...
I got my first ticket this weekend after a drive from Pennsylvania (where I used to live) to home (Florida) After visiting friends and family for the weekend. The ticket is for doing 90 in a 65 MPH zone . Now my question is since this is the very first ticket I have gotten, will I aquire any points on my license and what about insurance premiums?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.

Probably this is a hard to fight ticket.. I live in fla and went to driving class. Still had to pay for the ticket but it saves so much more by keeping it off your record. 4 hr class, easy
slow down there! speed smart

I'm not driving back to Virginia for the court case. Thats to far, the ticket is for 142 bucks, only 100 dollars is for actual fines, the rest is processing fees, etc...
Hopefully insurance doesn't find out. Figures I get one in my Civic Si, and never in my 79 Camaro.

If it is your first speeding ticket, you might be able to take drivers training and get no insurance increase, but if it isn't your first your kinda SOL, insurance will go up not sure about how much but some. Sorry about the ticket that sucks
I think it depends, cause I have gotten two speeding tickets over the years and both have been out of state so my insurance wasn't affected. I just had to pay the tickets. One was for $90 and the other was for $125. I'm surprised that you weren't taken in for reclass indangerment cause you were going 90 in a 55. I was only doing around 80 in my tickets. I think you're screwed. They might just pull your liscense for going that fast. Try making a plee bargain like form3hide said. Ouch 90 in a 55.

your insurance will definitely go up.. because the dmw has it recorded.. and when u go to renew your policy. they check your dmw status.... so if i was u, drive a little and save alot in the future from the speeding ticket!

90 in a 65.. not 55. I was coming down out of the Mountains to North Carolina. Everyone was doing the same speed, I was just in the fast lane, so I got used as an example.

25mph over the speed limit!
I'd consider yourself lucky that the ticket isn't more than it is. You may be able to plead no contest and keep the points off your license. However, the insurance agency will still it on your record. Generally, I don't think insurance agencies find out about out-of-state tickets. They never found mine and have heard many people say the same thing. I would definately go to the court date and attempt to get it lowered or something. The judge will see how far you drove to attend court and that will probably count for something. If a ticket for 25mph over the limit hits your insurance, you are going to get a BIG increase. Here in NC, a ticket for 15mph and over can get you taken to jail and a suspension for 30 days.

Typically how long would points, and the raised premium last on my record. I just got my insurance on the Civic, so it's not due for 6 months. Maybe I'll get lucky
21 in less than a month, and a prefectly clean record before this...

You'll get the hit the next time your policy renews more than likely. When you are up for renewal, they review your policy and pull your driving record. Points typically last for 3 years from the incidence. However, a lot of insurance companies look back 5 years to determine whether you are insured through a high or low risk company.
Tell me what state your license is in, and what state the summons was issued in. From there, I'll be able to tell what the ramifications to your license will be. As far as insurance, they can still see the summons no matter where it is from, however it is tricky when you are summonsed in another state with an out of state license.
