Manual vs. Automatic

If you were to put an automatic civic against a manual civic, how much would the manual win by? Assuming the guy driving stick is good.

Off the start the Manual would probably pull ahead quicker, but once you get into 4th 5th, it'll be about the same.

You mean 'more fun' I think - man, there's nothing like throwing the car from gear to gear! I'm never going back to automatic....yeah, the manual would have a good head start, but in the long haul they'd draw up even just about. Although there have been issues with my launch and his launch, krepoort and I tested it out...I have a quicker start (when I get my launch proper), but he catches up really fast...That was between a 2k2 EX automatic and a 97 DX manual. He wins the 1/4 mile though, I'm sure of that...

Yeah the launch in my auto sedan is terrible. I seriously get my *** whooped off the line by almost everything.

But on the highway it's not that big of a difference.

On the roads in a rolling acceleration, I get spanked hard...like 'daddy I didn't do my homework and you just found out I'm a cokehead' kind of spanked...

Manual all the way. It wouldnt win by a whole lot but it certainly would win. MotorTrend did a test with a 2002 Toyota Camry with an auto and a 5spd and the 5spd won through the QM around 16.3 versus the autos 16.9.

Manual would win by a little, but if the guy grinds or messes up, then manual would lose because as we all know auto is floor it and thats it

That's happened to me a number of times...nothing more embarrassing than trying to get up and go and grind instead...

Hell no...

The manual would pull ahead right after it hit 3rd gear.

The manual would be about a second quicker to 60 and the quarter mile. I don't know how far the two cars would be apart with a 1sec difference. I think 0-60 for the 5sp is around 9secs, and the auto is a little over 10 secs.

i raced auto lx sedan in my ex sedan, i won by like a car length. raced lx stick coupe pulled ahead first cuz his tires hella spun in first gear and beat him. we raced again but at a rolling start (aprox 5mph), i was beating himabout half a car until we hit about 80-90 or so. plus sticks are more fun to drive. auto or manual, i prefer manual unless its in traffic.

Well in autocross events, on a 60 second track, the stick wins by about 1 second. Only because of the gear-ratios and differential. Other than that, they're the same car.

Although, being the drift-king that I am, I could beat most sticks. Thats why I think auto's are better for autocross, because you can keep your hand on the e-brake and drift every turn, and cut about 5 seconds. Which is too difficult to do while shifting...
