Looking to buy civic, need advice.

Im in the market for a civic im thinking 92-99 range i want it as a daily driver slash fun car. My other vehicles are jeeps and a truck so you can see why id like to have a civic im trying to find one with a good balance of reliable good gas mileage but at the same time it being fun to drive and has some pep to it. Which probably any civic will seem peppy to me as im used to trucks and jeeps.

Id like it to get 30 MPG minimum and definitely a stick. im not picky about color or if its coupe, sedan or a hatch. Just looking for advice and suggestions on what i should get, look for and whatnot. Also not sure if i should try to find a sohc, dohc, vtec or what. Not sure if the dohc vtec engines get good gas mileage as well and if the other engines are really that much slower, id assume some of the other engines move the car along pretty good still. Open to any advice, suggestions, whatnot and ill be buying used 2500-3k is what ill spend, thanks.

Re: Looking to buy civic, need advice.

I have a 1996 Civic LX, and on one tank of gas I get on average about 375 Km. It costs about $40 to fill, and lasts me about a week, so pretty cheap I'd say!

The one thing I don't like about it, is that it's so much easier to find parts that work for an EX (I have the LX). For example, I am currently looking to swap a stage 1 cam into my engine. But, for me to swap a cam in, I need to do a mini-me swap, which entails putting a D16-Y8 head from an EX, onto my D16-Y7. The only cams out there for the Y7, are re-grinds.

So, if you are planning on doing some engine work to make it a little faster, I would highly suggest getting an EX. I wish I knew about that when I got mine lol

You can find a stock for at least $2000.
99-00 are dohc vtec. Because theyre SI b16 models.
But there's different models too. But the si stock goes for 4k++
My suggestion is get sohc vtec. So EX model.
And the only way you can save gas is "depending".
Because you have to know what you're doing with the car.
Upgrade the tires and dump the car will help with the gas milage.
More horsepower is less gas mileage.

Depending on where you drive even determines whether a hatch/coupe or sedan gets you better gas mileage.

If you do a lot of city driving, go for a coupe or hatch. The lighter weight allows for easy acceleration and braking which are good for MPG. If you do a lot of highway driving, the heavier sedan will have more momentum and coast easier, which also saves on gas.

Gas mileage is tricky to maintain because it mostly comes down to you driving habits. Some of us Civic owners get close to 40 MPG because we drive like grandmas, and some people get in the mid 20's because they fly around town at the speed of sound.

The DOHC has slightly lower MPG numbers, but the added amount of "pep" and fun makes it totally worth owning. I say look for a 99-00 coupe or hatchback!

Re: Looking to buy civic, need advice.

Im still looking around im taking my time, im really looking for a nice EX so id have a single cam vtec hoping it would be kinda best of both worlds, but i also wouldnt mind finding one with a little work long as its nothing nuts. One with a swap like a b16 would be cool as well if done right. One thing i cant decide is if i want like a 92-95 or a 96-2000 model. Buddy of mine said that the 92-95 are actually a little faster, but thats hard to believe they are like 200 lbs lighter but the power is like 105 compared to 127 i think with the d15 and d16.
