hung w/B16c CRX...
I went down to the local cruising spot tonight and ran with a CRX B16c, hybrid swap... I pulled up to a red, and along side of me pulled a CRX B16c, I/H/E, and it sounded pretty mean... I've heard those things typically run around low 15's, high 14's... So I figured what the hey, I revved my engine, as he did the same... The light hit green, awesome start on my side, and he pulled about a headlight ahead of me... slammed a nitrous second, spun the tires and started to pull even with him... Into third we were even, about 6000rpm... he started to pull a little we shut down at 4th, and he was about a headlight ahead of me at the most... So moral to the story: These cars are fast, and I don't care what anyone says, but this gen is just as good as the others...
P.S. He hit the hazards as though he had smoked me... what a ricer(again)

I hit mine in 2nd all the time. i even hit it in first just before i shift. you just have to be quick. i have my trigger mounted right buy my shifter so its right there to hit. if i dont hit in 1st i hit is as i am shifting.

<< Sketchy.... Should really watch it..firing Nitrous in 2nd is a good way to tear apart you engine mounts!!! >>
<< mohawk's right >>
No, hes not.
Actually a 1st gear pull would be more damaging then anything. Think about it. Your going from 0 to whatever with at least 50 BHP more then what the stock car was meant to make. Thats where youll get most of the drive train (i.e. clutch, tranny and so on) wear, and lets not forget about tire wear. In a 2nd gear activation your already moving. The tires dont need to deal with traction issues (usually), and there is less over all stress on the drive train due to obvious reasons. Not to mention that your going to be much more likely to hit your rev limiter in 1st then any other gear. In a nitrous application this can and will result in engine dammage or at the very least a blown plug. How hard is this to understand?

not to mention engine mounts only felx when the engine is under load (and it takes a lot more stress then a 50, 65 or even 80 shot will create to "tear them appart" in 1 use). Please explain how it is that you thought the engine would be rocking on its mounts any more in 2nd gear then in 1st. ;

Ok, nitrous is a touchy subject, and I have talked to numerous draggers about this, the best time to hit nitrous is in the earliest part of a shift, unless you are using it to spool your turbo, in that case you use it from the line... For example our civics, ex's of course redline at about 7000, once broken in, when you slam a gear (2nd), then you have to realize the rise time from around 4800(where your shift starts) to 7000 rpm(where it ends), typically you have about 2+ secs on a slightly modded civic/and the driver...to hit your shift from 2nd to 3rd, with a nitrous shot you have about half of that. So if I were to hit nitrous in second gear as soon as I shift, then I would have ruffly a second or less to shift, plenty of reaction time, and just to let the people know that haven't felt this sudden boost of power, it's almost as though time actually slows down when you hit nitrous, I'm sure it has something to do with the immediate adrenaline rush you get from a sudden pull like that... which is why we are so addicted to racing, I have a 50 shot, and have dynoed it at 130 to the wheels at 6800rpm, so when I hit nitrous at 5000 rpm, I'm probably only getting about 170 to the wheels instead of 180, at a higher rpm, so the only place my car really feels the stress is in the flywheel and clutch plate, now that I have been shooting NOS , I have started to notice a loss of torque at my shift points due to the max amount of stress that my clutch is feeling(i.e. I don't peel out into second gear unless hitting the NOS...
, so my clutch has taken a beating but the engine itself is doing just fine... I have already ordered the ACT clutch... street model, with a drag clutch plate because of the stress it will feel, next is the flywheel, so in short nitrous is best used when at a mid to high rpm, between shifts, where you will have enough reaction time, not at 6500 rpm at the end of 1st gear...
, hopefully that answers some questions...and also I hope I don't sound like too much of a smart a$$, but I did my research before I got the NOS, and I know the restrictions and detriment it can cause... Later
