Window tint from dealer?
Window tint from dealer?
I was thinking about getting the 50% chrome window tint from my local honda dealer, is this a bad idea? Is there pros/cons to this? I was able to get them to quote me $199 installed for the 50% chrome for my silver ex coupe.

chrome is that the metallic one?? if it is and u plan on gettin a radar detector i think it wont work. but 50% is very very light so it might work. and no there is no prob from gettin it from the dealer. is the dealer goin to do it themselves or are they gonna take it to another shop that they use??? maybe try asking people about where they got their tint done and go there and ask for pricing.
Pretty much you get what you pay for. I paid 150.00 for my tint from the dealer & I got the legal platinum tint, kinda like the mirror look. I called around and most places want 200.00 & up. Usually the places that the dealer recommends have lifetime warranty. If I didn't go through the dealer, the same place would of charged 260.00. I got a voucher from the dealer then went to the tint place to get it done, I have a lifetime warranty on it and it's top of the line film. Alot of the cheaper places carry the cheap film, after awhile it will start bubbling and sometimes dry out & begin to peel. On the black tint, it becomes a purple color if its cheap. Might as well spend the money now than spending another 200.00 to remove the bad tint then another 200.00 to reaply tint.

What brands of tint do I need to look for that would be equal or better to what the dealer will give me? The dealer is offering a lifetime warranty and they called it chrome tint, and I thought they said it was 50%. It was REALLY dark but it was darker then their cheaper tint and they said it blocked a lot of heat. The warranty covers discoloring and bubbles and stuff. I'm in the dallas area so if anybody has better suggestions just let me know a place to check out! Thanks!

i dunno bout everywhere else but you could get a tint job done for 150. thats all 5 windows with limo tint and with good film such as titanium or quantum. this is including lifetime warranty. i try not to take anything to the dealers cause they always try to rape you.
soniccivic -- i agree with ya! most auto windows are tinted green to supposedly "reject heat". anyways, it makes mirror tint look like crap. sorry to those that have it, but its just my opinion
but even UGLIER is the half-mirror/half-black gradient tint i've seen... it looks just lovely with the windows rolled down half-way, cuz the blend lines don't match (and the mirror tint is still green!) yuck.

I got my car tinted for 150 and it's a sedan. I seriously doubt the dealer is going to do the tint themselves. They usually outsource that kinda of stuff. That is probably why it is so much. They pay the tint shop and take a little cut on top. I would call the dealer's service department and ask them who they use or recommend for tinting windows.
get the tint done by a reputable place that offers a lifetime warranty and has been in business for more then 2-3 yrs.... that way u know they do good work, ask for references... tint jobs are a big deal.. make sure it is done right the first time... you want a minimal tintline... so you want as little glass as possible on the edges of the window to NOT be covered by tint
<< Yeah man you'll find a better price at a tint place, I got my illegal 5% job done at a tint place for $200, he said if they found out he did it they would fine him like $1500....eeek >>
is that in US funds???...holy **** if it is, I got my 5% for $100 CAN funds...
Mine was like $160 for my whole coupe in 6% Solar Gard HP Charcoal with the window strip, Illegal on the front 2 windows of course in like every state.
But I was going to get the dealer to tint my windows but glad I didn't since they wouldn't have gone as dark as I wanted.

Bottom like... you got a deal, and he got ripped off.

Too bad... I just wanted it to reject the view of the inside of my car.
EDIT: I guess the good thing is that metallic tint lasts much, much longer than regular tint, but tint warranties make up for that.
