Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?

If you want anything sporty at all, RWD is a clear choice winner. Sure, they're not that great in the winter but with the right tires, some RWD driving experience and some weight in the trunk, they can be just as good. I had a grand marquis with a track loc, no traction control and some sand bags in the trunk along with studded tires and it handled just as good as my Honda does plus if you want any power at all not only are you going to ditch honda all together but your not going to want a FWD with *****. Look at the new Impala SS's with the v8's, torque steer central.
I cannot speak for the new Hyundais but I'll give them credit, before they were basically regarded as a joke and you see early 2000's cars going for less then $1000 while hondas of the era still command top dollar. The only difference is that in recent times Hyundai has made efforts to be a top car manafacturer and spends lots of time making appealing cars of much better seeming quality then there previous while Honda has been cutting costs at all corners and producing the same boring cars they have in the past minus the bulletproof everything. New hondas are falling apart in a year or two, they will never last like old ones. My 05 is great but anybody I know with an 06 or newer has nothing but problems for the most part not to mention in most cases they are horrendous looking and just feel cheap.

wow hyundai really screwed up the gen coupe for 2013. that front end is just plain ugly. To enjoy your civic again stop worrying about how much money you put into the car and what people think of what you drive problem solved. I don't know how much money I have put into my civic nor do I want to know. Its a hell of a lot more then what you have put into yours, maybe thats why I still enjoy getting into my car after 3 years with it because of all the hard work and money I have put into it.

Why do you care about impressing random strangers on the road?
A Hyundai will not impress anyone, btw.

Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
The Genesis is, indeed, a nice looking car. In terms of quality, auto company like Hyundai, Honda and Toyota should be comparable.
To me 7th Gen's engine is more reliable than 6th, here is what I think:
Switching to Ignition coils make the winter so peaceful when comparing to the distributor. American cars like Ford escort 96 already used coil pack.
To tell the truth, I don't feel like that I want to drive Honda that much. I like my 6th gen Civic and I like my 3rd gen CR-V even though it's too heavy to move.
The design of the front of current Civic Sedan doesn't look that great. The rear is alright. If I buy Civic, Si will be my only choice. However, the price range is very close to a standard Mustang which has more horse power. I have to say. It can be a tough decision.
As the technology and manufacturing go, the reliability should go up since all the contributions are getting better and better.
Branding might be a problem for some people but I think if you like this car, but the one you like--for instance my decision between Si and standard Mustang, I will likely to choose Si over Mustang because of the DOCH VTEC sticker on the side.
I like the VTEC engine, that's all.

I disagree... I'm more impressed by the genesis coupe than I am with a Civic Si... FWD sports cars are taboo man seriously. It's awesome to see a FWD civic doing 11 seconds on a 1/4 mile but I'd like to see how effective it is on the track. This is where you really have to decide if you want a true sports car or just something that looks sporty and can go fast in a straight line. Torque steer FTL

Regarding a stigma against FWD, only car people care about that.. and car people are a very small percentage of the population
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Makes me want one too just to keep up and not be so out of date. Cause when people see a 7th gen civic, they know its out of date. Today, I just saw a Hyundai Veloster. I first saw the front end, I immediately knew it was a Hyndai cause it has the same front end as the Gen coupe.
Too expensive. But I like the evolution, but its Mitsubishi, not sure if i would risk buying such a mixed reviews brand. Otherwise i probably would have gotten the 2011 Lancer ES from Hyundai. Its blue my preference, it looks amazing, and its very roomy inside. But I wasnt impressed with how it drove, a lot probably had to do with the CVT trans.

Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Its mostly cause i see a lot of people driving nice new expensive cars. I go down my street and all I see are 8th gen civics, BMWs, high end SUVs, fully loaded quad cab trucks, a few Mits Lancers, a few infinitis, a couple Nissan 350z's.
Makes me want one too just to keep up and not be so out of date. Today, I just saw a Hyundai Veloster. I first saw the front end, I immediately knew it was a Hyndai cause it has the same front end as the Gen coupe.

I really, reallly, really, really hate the Veloster. It's tied with a Nissan Juke as the ugliest car I've ever seen.
A motorcycle is a good alternative to a new car if you want something nice to enjoy. You can buy a very nice bike for under $10k new.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Meh, don't try to keep up with anyone else man. Just live your own life, what anyone else has or thinks isn't important.

When i bought my civic 1yr 7 months ago, i was perfectly fine driving it for just over a year before I started to want a new car. I need to get that happiness again.
Veloster looks good from front but not so great at back. An odd looking car, looks a lot like the Honda CRZ. The gen coupe is the only Hyundai i like and only reason is for the looks.

kbook,
i do tend to agree, but this is one of the few times he posted on the off-topic, so i am actually being patient with that
i did say what i did 'cos i did not want to have misconceptions, and to have a bad comment to a honda for no reason at all (even for an off-topic thread)

Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
A few years back i was actually wanting a nice bike. I have family members who had bikes in the past and said it was a blast to own and ride. Even more fun than driving in a new sports car, but a whole lot faster. but obviously theyre for summers only and dont last nearly as long as a car. I would have to take professional lessons too.

Why is having a nice car so important to you, it's just a car. I know people living in multi-million dollar homes who drive around town in a Civic. There are much better things to spend your money on, and trying to impress people around you by spending money will never leave you fulfilled.

Going into debt to make yourself happy is a viscous and unsustainable cycle though.

I dont know why its so important to me. I know its not but for some reason i tend to think this way. When I got this civic i was so happy just to have a car, my first car. Now i think im taking a car with no monthly payments for granted and getting too greedy.
When I have this car detailed and cleaned and waxed in the summer i actually think it looks nice. I say hey thats actually not a bad looking car. Sure everyone including their grandma drives one, and sometimes on the road all i see are civics, and it wont turn heads or get attention "wow what kind of car is that?" like a Genesis would but i guess it could look a lot worse.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
^ slam the civic put on a nice set of low offset wheels and people will be staring at your car as you drive by. its a lot cheaper then buying a brand new car to
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Slam it as in lower it with coilovers? Ya i made mistake last year buying 15" rims last summer, should have gotten 17" and summers, main reason i didnt want to get 17" was cause i already had two sets of new tires and was trying to cut costs.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
I just found out my neighbour 3 doors down just got a brand new grey veloster. Im gonna pass by it everyday. Its ugly but eye catching. Any car with huge rims gets my attention. These new hyundais all have huge rims. A lot of hyundais in my area.
Lots of nice cars here. Lots of rich people. Just saw a black nissan 370z.
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
Holy ****. Looks like those scumbags sold that 09 SI that i was this close to buying. My condolences to the customer who got fleeced for paying prime price for a total loss title.
Nice looking car forsure but not sure if it was worth the risk for 6 yrs.

I hear mixed feedback on mitsubishi in general. Was told the lancer GTS is their bottom barel quality sedan and not very good. im guessing evolution is a lot better?

LOL
"Hyundai hired George Turnbull who is the former Managing Director of Austin Morris as part of the company's desire to developing their own cars."
Austin Morris made a car called the Morris Marina which was notoriously bad. I guess Hyundai was using the shotgun approach to building cars when they first started.
Pianos fell on Morris Marinas quite abit over the years on Top Gear UK

yea lower it a lot lol.. had 3 people come up to me today to talk about my car
Re: Has Hyundai surpassed Honda? In terms of quality and reliability?
For the Genesis looks, do you think its look will stay modern for many years? Or does it have a generic sports car look that its looks will fade over time? And eventually one would get bored with it.
Your car is nice, what size rims you got? How much is your drop? Well id get adjustable coilovers cause id lower it in the summer and bring back to stock height for winter. Do you think that would look funny on 15" rims? I was looking at coilovers last summer and the tein coilovers were still $1000+ online. Forgot the site but i got it off here.
