Q's about dealerships
ok, i just read the Auto Parts Customer's Bill of Rights, and it states:
<< You have the right to use high-quality aftermarket parts and know that your new car warranty claims will be honored. In fact, your vehicle dealer may not reject a warranty claim simply because an aftermarket product is present. A warranty denial in such circumstances may be proper only if the aftermarket part caused the failure being claimed. >>
and i called my dealership asking if i put on a exhaust or intake, if my warranty will be voided. and they said yes. and i tell them, well i read that you cant void my warranty unless you prove that the aftermarket part caused the problem. and he told me, no we still can.
and well, im going to be gettin a cat-back in a week or 2. and when i take it to the dealership and they say they're going to void my warranty, should i have the Auto Parts Customer's Bill of Rights printed out and show them and call the number on there?

the dealership has final say, it's not worth arguing w/ em cause chances are they're gonna win even with the paper work supporting your argument. It all comes down to your dealership and what they say, each dealer is different.
I know while at school (upstate NY) I had some minor work done covered under warranty and they wouldn't allow any engine mods (didn't ask about exhaust) but my dealership back in CT doesn't care. Heck the sales guys went out racing the new SI's when I was there cause they were bored.

They are BS ing you. that federal act is there for a reason. if something goes wrong and u take them to court i guaruntee the court will make them do what that law says. make sure that it was the part that caused the problem. as for the exhaust it will void the warranty on the specific part itself not the whole darn thing. the dealer has the right to refuse work on the car if it has aftermarket parts on it. dont listen to what the lil service desk people tell u. go higher and complain all the way it will get alot more done. my speedo screwed up and the lil service lady that took car of me just looked at the car and said that since i have an aftermarket tach installed that that could be whats is wrong, she got all nasty and walked away from me while i was talkin to her, o boy that was not a good thing to do, i went to the info desk and asked for the most pwerful person in the building and told him the prob, and he went out there and did what he was supposed to. he ended up getting me a new speedo cluster all under warranty. as for that hoe bag of a service later, she never ever ever gets to look at my car again for as long as the warranty is there, i mean she better not even LOOK at it with her eyes, i almost hit her when she walked away while i was in mid convo to her. just had to vent my warranty frustration.

since im only 17, and i look punky.. so they wont take me seriously, no way in hell. so i'll probably have to threaten them with takin the issue to a higher place.

No, don't make any threats. The dealership needs to understand that bill of right. Put it to their face. They can't void a warranty unless you want them to fix a problem that was caused by an aftermarket part, or to fix something that's been modified. It's not uncommon xHoteKx, that dealers go against aftermarket parts and they can dislike them as much as they want. But they have no right to take out your warranty just for their insecurity towards aftermarket parts. Putting in a new intake or an exhaust... simple "bolt on" modifications that don't require any welding to the engine bay, cannot possibly void your warranty.
Hell, HONDA OF AMERICA THEMSELVES DON'T EVEN UNDERSTAND THE WARRANTY LAWS! When I got my 2k2 Civic, I read all the pamplets that came with it. There was one about aftermarket exterior parts (better known as body kits to us). They say that these parts can void either the paint and scratch warranty (understood... exterior is modified, but as long as they don't touch it, nothin is voided) or the full warranty. Them saying that it could void the whole warranty is something I just don't understand.

Just a question why would you take it to the dealership after you get your exhaust to show it off and see if they will void your warentee? Also you dont have to get your car fixed at the dealer you baught your car from, all honda dealers will honor the honda warentee. Also if the problem is caused by the product just take it off and put your stock one back on. Thats why you should keep all your stock stuff.

Yeah, DON'T do this unless you really have to go to the dealer for something. Right now, you couldn't possibly have anything against the dealer that's stopping you from enjoying your car at the present moment. It's a waste of time.
