Another rant. This time, about the 2zz and the Ecotec
Sniff sniff, you smell that? It smells like bullshit. Once again, I gotta get this off my chest again before I explode. The ecotec and the 2zz have to be two of the most overrated engines I have ever heard anybody follow. I mean these no talent *** clowns want to knock the Honda powerplants but come on, pound for pound, the K/B units PWN (throwback) both the 2ZZ and the Ecotec.
I've driven both, and the ecotec is just molasses. Have yet to drive one (save the Cobalt SS but thats mech induction and thats cheating) that is remotely performance oriented, has decent gearing and has broad power. Its Crap. Crap I say, and just bloody rubbish. It is equal to or less than ew.
The 2zz i've seen perform well. I've seen the Shitlica GTS take an ITR in the 1320, on a road coarse or autocross its another story, the ITR FTW. Now this isn't just coming from a Honda fanboy but I mean, the ITR, or any B/K for that matter puts out broad range of power. The 2zz is peaky as fehk. Nowhere near any real power until almost redline. I've driven the 2zz in a corolla s and in a celica GT and GTS and the gearing is just all sorts of fehked up and stupid. RETARDED!!!!!!!! Not to mention you can't make any serious power out of them NA, they don't respond well to bolt on's cams head work etc. Very closed design. WTF is wrong with the people that want to put their wieners in these engines?!
I feel better now. Thanks for reading. The end of my rant. For now.

Nissan, Subie, Mitsu, Toyota, domestics, they all love to hate on Honda. Our cars may be fwd, but the engines are the best in the world, compare the stock flow rates of Honda heads to any other engine and keep talking smack.

In Japanland, they race them in 12-24 hour endurance races with no mods to the engine allowed. Thats some serious Resaerch and development ***** right there, from an engineering standpoint, you learn so much like that... putting a 7.0L pushrod V8 handbuilt on a platform thats 2weece my age doesn't teach you a damn thing. Even in the euroGT circuit, GM is swapping LS9s into Astras and Vectras which doesn't really force them to utilize their 2.2 Ecotec for racing, hence they don't learn **** from it. When I see the layout and the engineering behind these engines (ecotecs) im like WTF where they thinking putting the oil filter inside a PLASTIC CONTAINER THAT HAS A PLASTIC HEAD ON IT THAT YOU HAVE TO UNSCREW TO GET THE FILTER OUT?!?!??!?!?!?! WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?! That plastic head is going to break eventually. PLASTIC INTAKE MANIFOLDS?! ARE YOU ****ING SERIOUS?! They take no consideration at all into making things accessible for the DIYer to do. I mean yea the Ks are akwardly placed and some things are hard to get to in that car straight off the bat (correct me if I'm wrong I haven't worked on too many K series) but everything about that engine was engineered for max performance.
I remember when they were discussing the new design of the K and why it was "backwards" (to us Honda guys, forwards to everyone else) and they were saying that they flipped the engine around to bring the center of gravity closer to the middle of the car, run the manifold away from the oil pan for oil longevity and oil lubrication and even because the parts of the engine that needed to be serviced the most would be closer to the front cutting down on maintenance time. You just have to stand back and say wow. then you pop the hood open on a Saturn or a Cobalt and you say Godfehkingdammit who took a **** under this hood and wrote their initials GM in it?

My buddy's ex-gf has a cav, we went to change her oil for her and couldn't figure out how to get the filter off. It turns out you need a special tool straight from GM, $68 for us Canadians, **** that. A 1/2 ratchet is a very very close fit, so we used that. Turns out we stressed the case by using the ratchet, even though there was very little play, and it split in half dumping all the oil out on the road.
The LS9 is a great motor, but it's ****ing expensive, $32,000 brand new. It's not like the k20a or F22c, which are built at a moderate cost and put in mid-range production cars.
