My $30 Paint Job
I had a Milano Red Si that I finally got to pretty much exactly how I wanted it.

Until this happened

So I bought this

but I absolutely HATE the 96-98 front end so I did this.

But I got tired of the two tone. So I started painting. Today I got the first coat down. I've spent less than $30 so far.

This is how it sits now. I ran out of daylight. Tomorrow after class I'll be sanding and putting down another coat. Looking good so far

I used less than a quart of Rustoleum red paint and decided to roll it on instead of spray it for several reasons. I'll have more pictures up tomorrow.

Re: My $30 Paint Job
Good move on the 99-00 front end, that's a huge improvement. I'm looking forward to seeing the results, I don't want to go rustoleum on my car, but I do want to attempt re-spraying myself..

Re: My $30 Paint Job
I'm debating on going back to that tbh. Why you might ask? I'm glad you did
I would like to point out right now, how much I adimately DESPISE the Roma Red factory paint color. The reason being that it is IMPOSSIBLE to match. It is. Seriously. No lie. I checked on it first thing this morning and the paint dried a different color. Completely. I'm talking about Fire Engine Red vs Ketchup red, its a HUGE difference. Now I either have to finish painting it and be two tone again which I don't want to do, or paint the whole ****ing car which again, I don't want to do.
At this point, I'm faced with either finish it, go back to primer black, or do the whole car.

ditto. so similar, they look almost exactly the same. both have the same bumper, grill, and the same HUGE bug eye headlights. that's one of the reasons I like ej's, nice sleek headlights. and those headlight brows people put on their cars just look stupid imo. but hey, for $30 paint, looks good man!

Re: My $30 Paint Job
So everyone has heard the song singing in the rain? I made up a new one called sanding in the rain. I needed to wet sand the first coat to put a second coat on today and it's been raining all day. At first I was pissed BUTT i figured why not go out and sand in the rain. It's ghetto as fehk but then again, I'm painting my car in my parking lot with house paint and a paint roller....it wouldn't be beneath me would it. So I went out in the rain and started wet sanding and let mother nature do the rest. A bunch of the paint ran off into a puddle and this STUPID ducks (they don't move for moving cars, I bump into them with my GFs car all the time hahahaha) walked in it so they now have bright red feed mwahahaha this is what its at so far.

paint looks dull because ive sanded it with 340 grit until smooth. The paint doesn't match but it looks damn good man. I will say that. Ironically, it matches Milano Red exactly. IIIIIIIIRONY. So it will look like a 99-00 Milano Red front clip on a hatch. Not too bad until I get around to painting it. I can deal with it for now until I can get the money to get it done with matching paint. It's better than it being black and everyone asking if I got in an accident. Ill post up more pics when I get another coat down.

Re: My $30 Paint Job
^I just have terrible luck with spraying lol I hate all the prep involved with spraying and the clear coating. I just wanted to have this on as a temp fix until I get the fundage to have it professionally matched and sprayed. If this stays for over a year, I can't complain man, I mean seriously, $30 and it looks damn good. It will look a whole lot better when I buff it after it cures. but thar she blows. Ill get better photos when its daytime

Not too shabby for 30 dollas. i need to do the mirrors grille and side skirts next.

Re: My $30 Paint Job
and riot, thats is freaking awesome for a "$30" paint job. did u rattle it?
when i rattled my bike, it took almost $150+ in rattle cans from primer, base to clear.

Re: My $30 Paint Job
no suh, I used one quart of Rustoleum red (that I thought matched my paint) an aluminum paint tray and two ultra smooth finish high density rollers. With tax and everything and sand paper and such it came out to 27 and some pennies at Lowe's, we built something together. For yall other peeps out there with less obnoxious colors than Roma Red you can do what I did initially, pop your bumper trim piece off of the fender, the ones that run along the side of the car, and take it into the paint department, ask them to match that color. To yall with metallic colors, well yall are pretty much fehked since I don't see how yall can roll on metallic paint, but for the rest of yall, yall can thin the ***** out of a gallon of rustoleum or any other exterior paint and feed it through a gravity gun or a wagner power sprayer and do it that way with matched paint.

Re: My $30 Paint Job
if it comes out horribly, its nothing that sand paper an spray paint can't fix. As far as prep goes, I had spray primer under it, I just scuffed it up with some 340 lightly and rolled it on and then 340 on the first coat and rolled on a second and done. Im going out now to see how it dried before I decide if it needs a clear. Ill snap some photos

nice job man
