Re: My $30 Paint Job
Im seriously debating this. I'm going to look for a paint that is closer to my color first, if I can't find one then I'm just going to clear what I got. If I can find a closer color I'll coat that **** and and roll on a clear. One thing to remember to those who would do this as well, the clear has to be the same base as the paint, i.e. enamel paint enamel clear; water paint water clear etc. or else it will not harden and look like ****. Also, do not sand the last coat before the clear or it will show. Other than that it's pretty straight forward.

thats one. I'm going to roll on another coat of a darker red or two until I find a color that matches a bit better.

Re: My $30 Paint Job
Ooh, you should have mixed it with mineral spirits, it reduces the dry time by about half
If you're using paint by itself, it's going to take forever to cure, since it's enamel

Re: My $30 Paint Job
im running out to the gas station to go buy beer. Ill take some photos of it under artificial light, thats where the disparity of color is most noticable. The finish is as smooth as I'm going to get it with the roller im going to see if I can find some paper finer than a 1000 grit to finish it. If I can't then I'm just going to get some polishing compound and buff the absolute dog **** out of it.

Re: My $30 Paint Job
Hey riot, why don't u wanna sand the base coat before the clear?
I've always sanded the bc with 800grit then cleared it, then sanded it with 2000 and them polished the snot out of it

Re: My $30 Paint Job
ive read a handful of DIYs in which some say do and some say don't I guess it does depend on the grit you use on the base coat

Re: My $30 Paint Job
this is where she sits now, Im at a stand still for about another 30 days until I can polish etc. I'm really disappointed in how mismatched the paint ended up but eh.

^
If that's the case, remember to register it with DMV, or they will be mad at you :P
I know it sucks to remove good paint, but I think having a complete look is better
The only problem with whole car paint, is that you probably wont me removing the panels, and old paint marks will be visable especially in places like door trims, etc

^If i paint the whole thing I will remove the hood fenders and bumper to paint. the doors and hatch will stay on because it's a bitch to line them up with the strikers once you pull them off.

Re: My $30 Paint Job
You can pay me to do a half decent job
Or you can man up and just break out the rollers
The process is so simple it's ridiculous.
The only vendetta is ...sanding's a bitch.
If you don't spend the proper time to sand it, it wont look good
