The advantage to the 2012 Si is that it has a k24 over a k20, but the first couple years of a new generation usually have a couple problems, so I would choose the 2011.

Nice coupes are sweet!
Yeah, originally that was true about the k24, but new this year they added the k24 to the civic Si. Same top end power, but a lot more torque

I drove a 2011 SI on a test drive last year and wasnt impressed!! Good power but awful in the winters up here in NY. Was all over the place. And there was barely any snow. Sounds stupid to test drive in the winter but I had to know there wouldnt be any isses seeing it snows alot up here in Rochester! I got a 2011 Subaru WRX, well my wife drives it now cause I blew up my old 7th gen she drove when i got this new car
One red line to many!!! Shop around a little. The newer civics are not for me. Dont like em. Sorry guys!! I think i will drive my 7th gen till i cant replace the motor no more, but this may be my last civic ever.

What Mindbomber pointed out is very reasonable. However, I think the K24 engine is pretty mature. I, personally, do not think it will have any big problem to the engine itself. One last thing... VTEC Indicator + Engine output status are very interesting

Really, I can't think of any major design flaws over the entire ten year history of k-series engines and dozens of models. Engines have always been Honda's strong suit though, aside from the cracking R18 engine blocks none of there engines have had significant issues that come to mind. It's suspensions and transmissions they've been weak on for the last decade, which is where my concerns would be.
