Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

Before you say anything I have done some searching and cant find any threads relevant to my question. I was doing some searching for some wheels that would be good for both street and track use and came across these trakilite wheels here. I am specifically looking at the camber version which weighs 10.9 lbs a wheel. http://www.traklitewheels.com/wheels.php

The ones that I want are sold in the exact configuration here: http://www.wheelfire.com/scontent/Wh...=Coupe%20Sedan

White with a red pinstripe lip. Its either that or the black with a red pinstripe lip. So my question is, even though these wheels are super light, has anyone ever bought them and had any problems with them or the rigidity. Can they hold up. Seems kind of cheep at $129 a wheel. I may also consider the Buddy Club P1 Racing SF wheels from PasswordJDM. Let me know. Thanks.

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

For the money and the weight, it's a pretty decent deal. Only issue I have, is that they are cast, not forged. SSR and a few other manufacturers have a better casting process - which is backed up by use and good rep on the track. Other lightweight cast wheels, like the Konig Helium, are prone to breaking - on and off the track. Personally, I'd got out and find a used forged set for the track, if you're looking to save a buck. If it's mainly for street, go for it.

Your call.

This.

The used version of authentic wheels often aren't that much more expensive than knock offs with questionable quality, with the exception of extremely rare and desirable wheels of course.

Damn... Alright, with that being said, does anyone have any recommendations towards any forged sets of wheels? Doesn't have to be super light weight. Preferable that they are lighter then the stock 16.5 lb alloys that come on the Si. Almost picked up a set of Mugen NR wheels until I realized they are the same weight as the stock ones, albeit 16's.

Edit: Anyone have any experience with Iforged wheels:

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

I wish I had experience with iforged, honestly, I can only recall seeing them on one civic before. They're a very high end, very high quality performance wheel manufacture. I've heard nothing but good things in the past about iforged quality and customer service, very popular on euros and supras.

My suggestions:
They're all a bit expensive, give us a budget and I can give suggestions based on that, there's always lots of good deals on used wheels available too.

Thumbs down Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

I sent an email to Iforged. Maybe I can be the first guy to vouge for these rims here by owning a set. Seeing as how I still have a couple of months to get home, I am definitely in no hurry to go buy a set unless they are super rare. I'm still trying to decide my budget really and right now I am just browsing. Just like how I am spending a grand on my cat back system... I am not above spending 2 or 3 grand on a set of wheels. Gotta do it right the first time if your going to do it. I saw a set of Mugen MF8 wheels on King Motorsports website that they have left. only two sets. 16x7 with a 4x100 bolt pattern. http://www.kingmotorsports.com/p-400...4x1143-52.aspx

I really like the Mugen GP wheels and if I could find a set that was either 15 or 16 inch wheel in the correct color then I might be inclined to pick them up but I dont think they make them that small or with a 4x100 bolt pattern.

I thought the Motegi Tracklites were cast as well as the Advan Wheels. Are they still good wheels all around?

I also was looking at the Buddy Club p1 QF forged wheels here which wouldnt be too bad and pretty cheap on price too. I was also looking at the Cast SF challenge version with Matte Black and Red around the wheel too. Also pretty cheap to pick up. I think if I wanted to be truly original though, I might go with a set of the Iforged wheels depending on how much they cost. I guess Ill just have to wait around in the mean time. Such a hard decision to make really.

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

Motegi tracklites are forged. Advan are sand cast, but like Max mentioned, they have such a good process the strength isn't much of a concern.

If you're into rare wheels and have the budget to support it..
Mugen NR-10s - $2800

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

Yea as long as the casting process is well done much like O.Z. and their wheels, I am not too worried. I didnt know the Motegi Tracklites were forged. Its good info to know now. Might help the process. Those Mugens are sick and I have never seen them before but I just dont know if they would look good on my SI. Thanks for all the help. Rep for you, for all the info you have given me. Not just in this thread.

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

Hey Mindbomber, or anyone else that might know. What set of wheel spacers would I need to allow a 16x6.5, 4x100, +55mm offset wheel to sit on my 99 Si? Spacers found here: http://www.kingmotorsports.com/c-310-spacers.aspx

Edit: Basically I want to know if these Mugens will fit my civic. :/

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

I'm confident that you would require a minimum of a 10mm spacers for those wheels to clear the brakes, running spacers that thick would not be ideal for a performance car.

For the record, I love the look of white wheels on red cars, they're an absolutely flawless pairing.

What do you think of BBS RS with polished lips and white centers?

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

Oddly enough... I am not a big fan of BBS rims. It is weird, I know. I have decided what I am going with in terms of rims. I got it down to two choices. I am either going to go with the Buddy Club P1 Challenge rims in White, or the same rim in Black with the red pinstripe. I am going to stay 15X7 for the lightest possible wheel and least interruption for suspension upgrades. Leaves room for lowering the car. If I decide to go with the white rims, I may go with the Forged version of the P1 rims.

The reason I want to go Black with the Red Pinstripe is because the look I am going for is a Milano Red Si w/ Black rims, black skirts, black front and rear lip and maybe a carbon fiber hood. The engine bay is going to be the Black Valve Cover, Black Skunk2 Intake Manifold, Black Skunk2 Throttlebody. I havent quite decided if I am going to remove all the turbo piping and paint that black yet either. Opinions???

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

Black and red is a great colour combination, I'm sure it'll look great, especially with a carbon fiber hood

I would wrap all the turbo piping with black heat tape, anything you can do to reduce engine bay temperatures is a huge help. Black paint would look good as well.

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

Black Heat Wrap may be just the thing to do it too. I am going to remove the valve cover and repaint it Satin Black with VHT Spray Paint. I am going to spend a lot of time on doing the prep work for the valve cover to get the finish I want.

Re: Question on Traklites (Not Motegi)

Desmond Regamasters (powdercoated) and Spoon SW388s (anodized). Came pretty darn close to owning a set but the deals fell through both times. I know the knock-offs are REALLY played out, but they are my ultimate rims. 15x6.5s are 8.5lbs, 16x7s are 9.6lbs, 16x8s are 11.2lbs.

Traklites are legit. 15s are 10.5lbs, 16s are under 12lbs. I own two sets.
