Torque Wrench Recommendations

My torque wrench just broke two weeks ago and i'm looking for recommendations for a 1/2" click-type torque wrench that will go up to 250 ft-lbs.

Anybody have any recommendations or which ones to avoid?

Re: Torque Wrench Recommendations

I have the craftsman torque wrench. I love it and it comes with the lifetime guarantee like all craftsman tools. Give it a shot!

Re: Torque Wrench Recommendations

I like my craftsman also.. But, craftsman doesn't have a lifetime on their torque wrenches, just a 1 year warranty. At least that's how it is on the MicroTork ones.

Re: Torque Wrench Recommendations

I own two Snap-On torque wrenches, I'm very happy with them.

Re: Torque Wrench Recommendations

My engines teacher has the electronic torque wrench from Snap-On. God, I want one of those sooooo badly. Does Craftsman make an electronic torque wrench? I have a 10 dollar clicker from Harbor Freight which actually works, but I want something that's gonna last.

I bought mine used from a retiring mechanic and had them recalibrated, otherwise I would have bought mastercraft ones.

I actually have a lot of mastercraft maxium tools and am very happy with the quality.

Re: Torque Wrench Recommendations

I have a harbor freight clicker one which works fine, and I also have craftsman beam-type which I check it against now and then (the beam types never go wrong unless you bend it out of shape).

I have the Harbor Freight (pittsburg) 1/2" torque wrench also, they have sales every now and then for under $10 (last week it was $9 and change).

I had it for 8 or so years, but I finally pushed it past its limit when torquing the crank pulley on my tacoma after a timing belt change, the crank bolt tq specs i think was around 250 ft lbs, this one is only good til 150lbs. I was too lazy to get my breaker bar, so I used a 5' pipe on the end of the torque wrench and the end poped right off LOL.

Lifetime guarantee on it though, when I was in the area of a store I brought it back no questions asked, they didnt even look at it, just gave me a new one.
