Civic Language!
So i am looking into buying a civic but i don't really understand "How To Talk Civic" Like B16 and D or E. I think i get it like B is the type of engine and 1.6L? How many diff. engines are in civics? Mostly interested in a 6th. Gen.

I'll start off with the civic trim types that i'm aware of:
EX: high end trim
LX: normal edition
DX: stripped-out base
VP: "value package" or something, basically a DX with a few amenities like A/C and power windows
SE: special edition, an EX or LX with some extras thrown in
GX: Natural gas
HX: CVT
CX: Hatchback, I don't think they made them past 2000.
Si: Sport package - better engine/suspension
Type R Civics, and other versions, are even better than the Si, but they are not sold in North America, and often have limited production runs anyway.
Onto engines, an example:

For engines, the first letter is the engine series (D series engines all have 4 cylinders, similar configurations), the number is the displacement (1.7 liters), and the last number is the model type - usually indicating differences to the valvetrain/engine tune, etc.
I don't know much about 6th gen civics in general, but I'll give an overview of engines:
D series: The staple engine for small Hondas from the mid 80s until 2006. In most standard civics from 4th to 7th generation. Most are SOHC, the higher-end civics pick up VTEC as you go travel through the 90s.
B series: High revving, high performance DOHC engine for small Hondas up through the mid 90s, you will find them in 4th, 5th, 6th generation high-end (Si) civics. The kind of engine you find CRX's, Integras etc.
K series: Replacement for the B series, I have heard them described as a "triumph of fluid dynamics". I usually reserve words like that for stuff like the F22 fighter jet, but this is the engine that every 7th-gen civic owner wants in their car. You can also find them in 8th generation Si's
R series: In the standard 8th gen civic these days. I know very little about this engine.
